Connected the iPad's camera connector kit, then connected my D3 via USB to that, and presto! Everytime I shoot, the shot appears in the photos app of the iPad! When I reach home and sync with iTunes, guess what: the downloaded photos are original Nikon .nef files! No loss in transition! Woo Hoo!

so, what benefits does previewing on a 10 inch screen bring?
the sense of pleasure of having a 10 inch screen?
if you want to check for sharpness, the 3 inch screen will do, i am sure the d3 allows you to zoom in.
if you want to check for color accuracy, i am not sure if the ipad allows you to calibrate.
most of the time people tether the dslr to a computer for other reasons than "oh, i have something bigger to view, woohoo!" :dunno::dunno:
Yes, other than a bigger screen to preview, it also acts as a portable hard disk to transfer my photos once the card is full.
I'm not saying that it is revolutionary, or that everyone needs it. Just sharing a discovery, i guess. If it is no big deal to you, that's cool.

Wooo, thanks for sharing. Now, if the iPad can work as an FTP server like MacBook Pro, dang I will order the iPad tomorrow.... cuz I have since been doing wireless tethering to my MBP. Although I would appreciate the coolness and lightweight of iPad... kinda wasted la having my Wireless File Transmitter - maybe I should dump it altogether.

Ordered from Apple Store. Expected to be on sale in sg shops Jul/Aug, I think.
I'm trying out a program that allows me to upload from the iPad onto a cloud disk. If that is possible, unlimited storage, incorruptible files seem imminent.
Have not really measured transfer speeds, essentially is syncing from iPad to iPhoto, standard USB 2.0 I guess.

So the gadget is designed for instant preview ? But messing around with 2 items can be fatal if not careful especially handling. Thought studio shooting is more appropriate. Some tripod manufacturer need to redesign to hold 2 items together, Gutzo perhaps ? On hind sight, it is good to have enlargement without going through surgical theatre, good for some photographers.:bsmilie:
How well does the screen of the iPad perform in direct sunlight? If it is not that good it is going to be hard to view as the LCD on the camera.
I'll stick with my year old Netbook..... 250GB and 12.1" screen..... But XMM won't be impress.... :bsmilie:
I read from somewhere that connecting a camera to the iPad does not work on all cameras or that the transfer fails for files that are too big. Is the feedback here based on transferring individual files or the memory whole card containing a large number of files?

I think that's a good alternative way(more portable than a laptop) to show to client what u have shot with tethering mode to iPad.
However, some people might not agreed or share your joy over your discovery. And "they" always think and say other people's grapes are all sour.

i think this is only applicable for studios.
which means that you don't need portability..
i cannot imagine someone waving an ipad around with a d3 tethered to it outside, anywhere. unless you are a big shot with a whole production team, then glory to you.
