Any one of you encountered such experiences?

Just want to share an encounter i had today at a restaurant at vivocity. was having a family meal to celebrate a family occasion along with Mother's Day. Brought my dslr camera along and had my UWA len on it. When the food came, i wanted to take a frame on the entire table with my other family members in it. was composing in the viewfinder and adjusting the settings when i suddenly heard a voice saying "Sorry ... no photography allowed of our dishes here..." i turned around and it was one of the restaurant captains or whoever he was telling me this. i told him i was not taking any specific pictures of any dishes but was trying to take a picture of the entire table. he then replied not allowed also. i replied back even taking pictures of my own family also not allowed here? he then replied if family members yes can. i then asked him that if you want to check my pictures whether i got take any specific food pictures, i could definately show him what i took. he then declined and quickly walked off.

boy was i pissed off.... firstly i was in my seat and leaning back trying to get everyone into the frame. I wasnt doing anything obvious like trying to zoom in into any food or what. secondly, he could have asked me whether i'm taking any specific close up of their dishes instead of assuming that. Do you assume that every customer that whips out a DSLR will take pictures of your dishes?

anyway, just to rant things off here lah. of course, i took a couple more frames after that but not too much. dont want to waste my shutter counts on such a place.

the captain most likely covering his backside...anything happen, at least he can say he did follow the management instructions.

Name the shop. :)

Personally i will boycott that place.

i dont want to do any naming here ... but I definately won't recommend my BOSSES to eat there.

Ya name the restaurant so we can boycott that place, eateries in VivoCity are not selling signature food that need to be secretly guarded.:bigeyes::bigeyes:

actually i just dont understand what's the rationale behind 'no photography here', be it at a restaurant, shopping mall, or any private buildings/condos???

alreadi named. ;)

I also encounter similar "advice" there... but I was shooting my food at that time.

jap food place? t**k**c**?~

Crap, first time i heard no photography of food. I think if an angmo take pictures the captain might be more than happy.

ask him very nicely and sweetly if it is restaurant policy.

if it is, then he needs to show you in writing, or you want to speak to his boss.

that way, if it is restaurant policy, you don't harm anyone......

if it is not and the guy is just a dodo with something against cameras, then his boss will know and the next time he tries this again it he will at the very least think twice.

aiyah, people just working.... following instruction.
give them a break.

Maybe he is just following his restaurant's policy. All in a day's work. But yeah, you could have asked to speak to his superior for better clarifications with regards to taking taking pictures in the restaurant. Is the food there nice? :bsmilie:

I would have walk right out without paying and saying anything. Actions speaks louder than words. ;)
If I were there alone, i would have done that. But it was a family occasion, wouldn't want to jeopardize the whole meal just because of my own gratification.

The ironic thing is that that place interior is black and quite dimly lit, how to take good foodie pictures there? Anyway I'm not into food photography at all. I prefer to eat my food!

ha ha ha :bsmilie: I can assure you an "Ang Mo" would totally ignore such a stupid order. What can they do about it ? I would like to see them try to confiscate my camera ! The only legal course of action for the restaurant would be to ask you to leave ( in which case you would not have to pay if you had not finished eating ).

I suggest we arrange for a time and date and all turn up to take photos.

Same here...

I shoot food pics in most of the restaurants and no one has ever told me NOT to yet. :)

first time i am hearing this!!! their food so nice they scared you copy their presentation???

anyway, i hope he didn't spoil your mood. what a kill joy.
