A good compilation of UV filters being tested for light transmission with surprising results.
UV filter test
UV filter test
informative thread. to put it simply (or for ppl who missed the point in the wall of text), UV filter is used to cut down atmospheric haze which can appear hazy on your photos especially the higher you go in altitude (as UV radiation is less scattered/absorbed by the atmosphere the higher you go)
However, if you are shooting in singapore (which is more or less close to sea level) i don't see why you seriously need a UV filter.
to off track a bit,
Ignoring the UV tests, the B+W is still the best filter out there which allows highest visible light through it, and does very well in the flare test. It is also the easiest to clean amongst all my filters and definitely the most well built. price is a bit pricey tho.
i personally use all B+W clear MRC (not UV) for my 10-22 and 70-200 f4L IS and a Hoya Super HMC on my Tamron 17-50 and 100mm macro
I am extremely surprised that Hoya filters are outperforming B+W filters.
