Hi people!

Heading to Taiwan in a few days time. Bringing my kit that consists of:

Canon Powershot S90
Gripped Canon EOS 40D
EF-S 17-55 w hood
EF-S 10-22
580EXII
2 x 8GB SD
2 x 8GB CF
6 x 40D batteries
2 x S90 batteries
12 x eneloop batteries
1 x mini tripod

Should I bring the chargers for the camera batteries? I'm only going to be at the Taipei area, not heading to alishan or sun moon lake. Also gonna try some portraiture work and determine if i like doing it.. might influence a decision to get the 50L or 85L..

looking for a bag also..

Guess main photog places for landscape would be fisherman's wharf in danshui.. any other recommendations from seasoned Taiwan travellers here?

I would rather bring less batteries and include the charger for just in case.. I'm heading to Taiwan for 10D9N and I'm only bringing 4 batteries and charger which I don't even foresee of using it.

since ur going to taipei pls drop by to xi men ding, or shilin night market. these 2 would be nice for portraiture and street candids.

as for ur equipment, 6 batteries might be over kill. unless ur running on liveview 24/7, u wont be needing tat much. 3 is more than enough. just take charger. note tat their voltage there is 110 volts. u might need a step upper and adapter if u wanna charge stuff. recommend u to get from some tour shops in singapore tats all.

as for fisherman wharf, i been there a few times before. found it quite boring, but managed to get a shot of a elderly lady eating porridge. u could also drop by to taipei 101, and take a nice panaroma there too.

hmm. wad else...

well. taipei is pretty much like singapore orchard road (at the central). so far i find food photography also can do seeing nightmarkets all full of food.

taipei like pretty much tats all. been there 10 years in a row already. LOL.

hmm 110 volts but i think our chargers can accept the voltage? then all we need is a travel adaptor right? cuz at the back of the charger it says 100-240 volts or smth liddat..

I just came back from a 6D5N F&E trip to Taiwan in mid-April. Brought my 500D+24-105, 580EXII, 2 LP-E5 batteries, charger and tripod. You intend to bring 6 x 40D batteries? I would suggest bringing half of that and your charger instead. For your 580EX, you might want to consider using Energizer lithium batteries instead of bringing so many rechargeable batts. The lithium ones are sufficient for approximately 600+ shots.

My last trip was my 7th visit to Taipei. Apart from Danshui, I think Jiufen is also a nice place for landscapes. Plenty of staircase and alleys there. Great place for shooting IMO.

What is your itinerary like? Will you be travelling alone?

haven't quite worked it out.. but i do know i'll be going to a farm on saturday with some of my girlfriend's friends.. sunday we're gonna go one of the catholic churches there to give a present to one of the little girls there.. she has a sad story behind her.. or so i'm told.

my gf will be with me all the time.. she's been there for like 2 months already.. on exchange program. so i'll leave it to her to bring me around..

good idea on the lithium batteries. i might work that out. i wanted to bring 6 batteries so i won't have to bring the charger haha.. but i guess all advice points to bringing the charger.. so i shall try that and leave 2 batts behind.

thanks for the landscape sites!

pity i cannot go alishan or sun moon lake.. some photos i've seen taken there are absolutely stunning.

jiufen, danshui are great places to take pictures.

hualien is a lovely place too

i think bringing a charger is a must. camwhoring usually auto-on when in taipei. haha

haha yes of course.. have to seize the moment!!

but still in dilemma.. dunno whether to just travel light and carry the S90.. or lug my whole setup over there...

or just bring both. which is what my current plan is.....

I've survived 8 days with 2 batts on my a850. If your charger states 100-240V just buy the pin adapter set would do.

haha bro.. i'm a SAF regular.. no camera phone.. :dunno:

but that's the main reason of bringing the S90.. i dun think many would be too pleased to see someone holding a DSLR taking camwhoring pics.. anyway it's too big and bulky to be able to do that..

haha thanks for the links! hopefully i'll come back with something nice.. :D

npnp. shilin i recommend u some places to eat. when u reach shilin night market, find a stalled named 棺材板. its actually deep fried bread with stuffigns and salad sauce. damn tasty. recommend u eat the prawn or tuna one.

then head down to a few more stalls, u can see oyster ommelettes. all very tasty, gooey and the chili sauce rocks hell. walk a bit more u can find the famous XXXXXXXXL chicken which is really huge and crispy.

then if ur at ximending, keep an eye out for nice fashionable clothes. bargain, but dun overkill the price. ppl needs to earn a living too:bsmilie:

depending on where u are staying (hotel), there are different places to go

The list seems heavy...

How's the weather there in June? It was on my shortlist of travels but I heard the weather is not good during June.

weather is summer. pretty much hot sweaty and its like singapore.

pretty much summer nothign one. winter always nicer:bsmilie:

on plus side, u seldom have drizzles. drizzles occur during winters

If you dun mind travelling a bit, an hour of train ride from Taipei will bring you to Yingge in Taipei County, or Yilan in the other direction. A lot of rustic small towns to visit over there.

Jiufen is a bit catered for tourist, you can try going all the way to the end of the bus ride to Jinguashi. They have the gold mine museum there, the view from some of the hilltop there are quite spectacular.

I'm sure you'll have plenty to shoot at the farm. Your GF can be your model for some outdoor portrait shoots ;)

I've never been to Sun Moon Lake before, but Alishan is a great place! Great weather, breath-taking sceneries. But also depends on your luck. When I was there, I did not manage to see sunrise because it was too misty. :(

Perhaps you can go there for honeymoon next time. Go experience the homestay..The one i stayed at was Small Swiss. It was fantastic! Can search for more info on web :)

when u go out do u bring all the lens ???

yup...

I have travelled to china, taiwan, cambodia, malaysia, philippine, hong kong, taiwan...etc with all these gears.

Yup...Is really heavy..But with the photos, I find it worth...
Need to get use to it.;)
