Something which i made recently...

1. In which area is critique or feedback to be given?
How to do away the white background and have the whole background the same as the tea towel i use. Also, why is my color so vivid? Esp my strawberry. So unreal! Tried to un-contrast but to no avail.

2. What were you hoping to achieve with this image?
Happy mood + makes u crave for ice cream straight!

3. Under what circumstance was the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
late afternoon. positioning - on top of a small table in the balcony

4. personal thoughts about the image
Not good enough. Kinda disappointed actually.

i think your focusing point is wrong... u should focus on the ice cream... not the tin box... so now your tin box is sharp in focus, but your ice cream out of focus...

i think your colors was vivid because, the rest of the colors here are plain white, plain pink etc, only the colors of the strawberry stands out, hence it looks 'vivid'

Have to agree that the focus is incorrect. Our eyes are led to the tin box rather than the food. Try a higher angle, go nearer to the food... this should give a totally different perspective.... u can drop the strawberry inside if u want

Use a larger tea towel, or overlap two or more pieces, or clone it.

Check your camera settings, or shoot in RAW and adjust later.

A bit of sunshine might help. Also, avoid rusty or rusty looking containers. Texture and age adds 'character' to the shot; not rust or stains that might look like rust.

Lighting is too flat. Try different times of day or location.

4. personal thoughts about the image
Not good enough. Kinda disappointed actually.

Don't get discouraged. Keep on trying till you get it right.

a nice image, but yes. i also agree that the focus is on the wrong place. to me, the main subject should be the contents of the tin, not the tin itself but good idea, i think
keep trying!

Get in closer, and maybe highlight the texture of the ice cream...

I like the idea you have there.
Agree with Dream merchant that should not show the rusty container. Maybe move the focus to the ice cream in the tin and blur out the rusty tin?

I like the 2 strawberries at the bottom right of the container. Not sure if it is doable - make the contents and the 2 strawberries sharper then the rest of the picture?

Still a newbie here myself....so not much of a critque..just sharing my 2 cents

Thanks for all the feedback.. but i can't seem to focus on the ice cream unfortunately. Cannot do auto focus, perhaps i should have gone higher and see more of the ice cream...

Focus manually ... higher angle can also work. Try several angles to see which works best.

Means there is not much difference between light side and dark side, i.e., too little contrast between bright and shadow. Subject come out very flat ... like the light.

As a matter of fact, maybe you can even do away with the tin container altogether.

Plate it out as you would when serving. Add the whole strawberries and/or waffles as side garnishes.

Check out cookbooks or online pictures on how deserts are presented and work from there.

There are many methods to tone down and fine tune the saturation, do you work with photoshop or other variants?

if looking at the shot makes me feel I want to eat it, it means it is a good shot, right?

Actually i did have a few photographs with higher angle... but very er.. ugly leh! hahahaa...

Ahhhhhhhhhhh.... i never knew food shots should not having flat lighting... so it is OK to a little contrast between the lights.. geez, much effort has been put all this while trying to avoid that! :bsmilie:

Erm.. yeah, i guess.. personally, if this picture makes me crave for it straight, it means it's a not-to-bad-picture!
