I see 2 specs of dust in my viewfinder which I cannot get rid of. I do not see the dust after taking pictures with the aperture wide open (F2.8) of a white wall.

Check and cleaned both ends of the lens and check plus used an air blower on the camera CCD but the dust is still visible in the viewfinder. Any way to get rid of it?

Appreciate inputs on this.

Thanks.

Dust also white, take pic of white wall no use. Should use large f no. with ur lens on to get high shutter speed, take a pic with lens cap on and shake ur cam abit. If the dust is really on the sensor it would appear.

The dust specs you see in your viewfinder is probably on your focusing screen which is a piece of glass above your mirror. You could try an air blower in the mirror box. Its better to send it to the service centre if you're unsure about cleaning it.

To check for dust on your sensor you have to stop it down to f16 or f22. Not shoot wide open at f2.8.

Dust in lens doesnt affect the image, should be sensor

But when i change to other len,the black dot so so much..dust really doesn't affect image.
i locked up the mirror and look in side the CCD,looks clean...

Meggi,
Think its on your sensor. Its hard to see the dust specs visually without a loupe or some magnifying glass. You could try using a lens as a magnifying glass if you have one that is suitable. Which DSLR are you using?.

lens as a magnifying glass?i dun understand this

thanks for all the replies and advice. I will give cleaning it another go. If all else fails, i will pay a visit to the service center.

cheers.

ok....has tested with dif lens and found the dot afre in the same point...so comfirm is ccd dust inside..

Then you confirm can go to NSC...don't trust any other repair shops outside coz most likely they are more ex than NSC itself...

btw, if u can see the dust thru viewfinder and not on image when taken at high F no. Then probably u can save ur money...changing lens can't reli identify ur problem I guess..

Hmm... I never thought to shake the cam a bit but it actually makes a lot of sense. Any dot that could be from wall will be blurred while an actual dust dot will be solid. But I think you mean low shutter speed.

a trick i pick up from our fellow handyman David

set your aperture to the smallest ie F22 set the shutter speed to 10-20s and find a white wall or backdrop and just snap, while the shutter is open, shake the cam around.

dust on the sensor will appear as a dot or speck on your image. smaller dust will be lighter dot while bigger dust are darker and bigger

another trick i learn myself is that most new camera have sensor cleaning ability, usually activated when u 'on' the camera or when u 'off' it. when the camera is cleaning the sensor point the camera downwards and shake abit if u want. by pointing the camera downwards the sensor plane is now like a ceiling and when the sensor vibrates the dust will fall off and drift down off the sensor plane. if u just set it on a table while it clean the dust may just fall off and shift to another part of the sensor plane.

personal exp is that i had dust that shift position after i activate the sensor cleaning, since using FX body the sensor plane is bigger and the dust just move house thats all. but pointing down and shaking abit while the sensor cleaning is functioning the dust that can be shake off drop away from the sensor totally.
