Water proof compact camera or a waterproof housing for Dslr

Dear fellow CSer,

i'm looking for a water resistance camera which i know in the markwt currently lots of makers are comin up wih water proof compacts.

I'm currently using Nikon D90. As i go travelling, i usually go to places with water.

Therefore not sure if i shld bring a waterproof compact or find a waterproof housing ( if there is)

hope someone can enlighten on the above and recommend me which waterproof cam is gd or where do i find the housing!

It really depends on how waterproof you need the camera to be.

Most waterproof PnS can go to around 3 meters. And a few can go to 10 meters. Here are some recommendations (a little old though).

If you want to go deeper for diving you will have to buy the dedicated underwater housings for a specific cam.

As for DSLR, good underwater housings for diving will run into the thousands with different attachments for different lenses. It will definitely cost more than your D90. It really depends on how you find the pricing justifiable.
