Tethered Shooting for EOS 50D on Apple Aperture 3

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear all,

My institution has just purchased Apple Aperture 3 for our new iMacs. It is originally for use with EOS 50D, which also just bought.

But alas, I found out although Apple said Aperture 3 could support 50D, but during tethered shooting, and when inside this Aperture 3 tethered shooting mode, the Aperture 3 cant activate the 50D via USB 2.0. The Aperture 3 has been updated to the latest firmware but still cant work.

Any users of the said Aperture 3 and 50D solved this problem? I was tasked to find out about this problem since the institution invested on 2 such setups.

Thanks in advance.

have you got eos utilities installed?

might be like an overlapping driver of some sort...
test the tethered shooting on eos utilities first and see how that goes.

Products Affected
Aperture 3.x, Aperture 2.X

Current generation cameras (Canon EOS 30D or newer and Canon Digital Rebel XTi or newer) are not supported.
sorry, but you are probably out of luck with the 50D and Aperture3 combination.

i ended up doing tethered capture using Digital Photo Professional and moving files to Aperture 3 later. not exactly the best of experiences.

edit: btw, Aperture 3 supports RAWS from the 50D, but not tethered shooting.

WTF is Canon doing... So means to say EOS 30D and newer ones like 7D cant use AA3 for tethered? My 5D still works well on AA2, luckily didnt change to AA3 on my own business.

that document applies to both Aperture2 and Aperture3. i don't have a 5D to try but i'm pretty sure 5D tethering continues to work in Aperture3.
