1. In which area is critique or feedback to be given?
- Newbie on DSLR/photography, wanted to learn more about composition, tone, settings.

2. What were you hoping to achieve with this image?
- Learn more about portraiture.I called this photo "bubble force" as in starwars in which jedi move things through their thoughts. My son would move around trying to catch each bubbles.

3. Under what circumstance was the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
- This photo was taken during an afternoon of fun playing with my then 11 month old son who loves bubbles (he thought of it as balls..:)). I have to blow the bubbles and quickly position my self to take the shot...

4. Thread-starter's personal thoughts about the image.
- One of my favorite shoots, capturing the moments i had with my son.

This is one good shot for the family album, though it could have been portrait framing instead of landscape. A little bit of photo-editing should get rid of those shadow.

Great family shot.
but then the shadow casted on the wall hints that u are using a direct flash.. So its best to remove it if u are in serious photo editing.. If not, its still kinda good shot to me.

The second point is that i think i might look better if u were to position ur son slightly abit to the left instead of placing him right at centre. Personally think tt at least u can give some room for the bubbles to be in the photo.

Cheers!!

my SGD$0.02,

would be better if take from a angle more to the left?
anw, cute kid:)

i like it.

IMHO, u managed to capture the curiousity and innocence of a child.

from a photography point of view, perhaps you could have shift the subject to the left, this wld have shown more of the bubbles and cut some of the space on the left side

Yap, too much weight on the right, making the shot a bit unbalance. If you have a speedlight, bounce it off the ceiling should get rid of the shadow. Lovely baby you have.

nice shot. If you used an external flash and bounced it, it would have been perfect.

Tnx Sir cabbySHE, i'll see to it next time. Just starting to learn how to PP.

Tnx Sir Photofreak. I was using my pop up flash when i took the shot. I'll make sure to check the subjects angle next time.

Tnx Sir ahming. I was on the run when i take the photo to capture the moment. I'll be more precise next time. tnx very much.

Tnx Sir motionstills. I just both an external flash and still learning how to use it..:cool:specially the bounce angle most of you guys referring. Still have a lot of things to learn from u all. tnx for the compliments.

Colour looks nice to me.
Sharp enough.

Composition could be better.
Maybe you wanna invest in a flash unit?

a very fun shot, with good timing and nice expression on your kid. :)

photographically though, the main problem as far as i can see is the extremely colorful and thus distracting background. this can be resolved by conversion to bnw. as a side note, the lighting here is a bit too harsh for my liking, you can try diffusing the flash light next time by placing a thin piece of tissue over the pop up flash.

i would personally convert the photo to 7:6 as well for better use of space:

Untitled-1-6.jpg

Simple shot but good effect. Could be better with a low F-stop and softer. Direct flash is a bit hash.

Harsh direct flash ruins the picture for me. Next time use a diffused or bounce flash

Yup, but prefer diffuser or ommibounce with a wider aperture for better background blur so subject will be obvious :D

Anyway, not to count the techincal flaws, I like this photo. It makes my day. Most kid general will look at the camera or avoid it which spoils the mood.

If you already own an external flash, this could have a lot more potential. I would try placing the flash at camera left to introduce side lighting. This would make the photo more dramatic and fit your theme better.

Try looking at movie posters and still to get an idea of how to light stuff.
