hi fellow CSers,

I hope to get your help on this.

i am thinking to buy a monitor calibrating device.

1) what brands do you recommend?
2) where is a better place to buy for lower price? please kindly list shops or websites that give good price.

3) does it help to get one if i am just using a samsung laptop (Q35), which lcd screen i don't think is great.

tks alot :)

1) spyder, huey, eye-one

2) can look for henessy here, if not, most of the monitor calibration devices are price controlled to some extent. alternatively, you can POOL with buddies, and share. you just need to recalibrate once a month or once every 2 weeks depending on how anal you are, so pooling is great.

3) yes. because color accuracy is of utmost importance. your laptop screen may be horrible, but at least it will display the correct colors.

Actually if just using your laptop, no real need to get a calibrating device..

Coz most laptop screen are not recommended for serious editing as ur colour & brightness differ when u look from slight different angle at the laptop screen..

yes, but if you only have a laptop, might as well get.

in future, when you buy desktop, the calibration device can be used still.♦

how about a mac laptop? will it be on par with a lcd monitor?

if monitor is still better, than which one is good?

tks alot :)

may i know what setup are you using? i mean what calibrating device and monitor are u using?

For low budget and to simplify calibration, get a Spyder 3 Express. It won't cost you more than $150.

Whether you get Mac or PC, the end result is the same. I'm using a Mac Pro G5 desktop and Dell laptop. The two LCDs have vastly different contrast ratio and brightness levels. When you look at the Mac, the images are so rich, so vivid and so beautiful. But if you calibrate the monitor, the output between a Mac and a PC will be the same.

my laptop is asus a8sc or something like that, the santa rosa one.

calibration device is spyder2express.

when printing with labs like triple d the color comes out pretty accurate from what i see, just a bit darker, which is normal because of cmyk versus rgb.

hi

tks alot. very insightful comment. :)

If you're not fussed, you can consider ebay. If you don't run multi monitor on a single pc setups, buy the express. You can get it on ebay pretty cheap. I got my Spyder 3 Elite for about $300.
