Rechargeable Batteries, Dead?

Hi all,

I have a set of 4AA Energizer Batteries,have been using them for sometime already.
So one day i decided to put it into my flashlight, but it could not power up, so i used another set of batteries (Imedion). It did a fine job of powering up my flash.

Sure enough i went to charge my set of 4AA Energizer batteries, and place it into my flash, it worked fine, so i took them out and kept them in my dry-cabi.

Few days later, i took the energizer batteries out, and insert them into my flashlight. But to my horror, it was totally flat. Used the Imedion batteries in my flashlight, it was working fine.

So the question i want to ask is:
-Is my battery dead? :cry:
-From what i know, rechargeable batteries are able to hold their charge for AT LEAST one week, but what went wrong with mine ? :dunno:

Some enlightenment would be good

everything has a lifespan, batteries are not excluded.
use it often or not, it will still age after sometime.

That saying is very true, but because i had the imedions and energizer at the same time. So it was just kind of surprising to me it "died" so early.

Imedion is the lower discharge rate of NiMh battery right? Those "Ready to use" niMh batteries.

Yup, those low discharge rate battery. But energizer says it store its charge to ard 6months.
seriously i duno what went wrong :dunno:

Why not? I too had some & they died only after less than 5 charges. Could be due to defects. Bought new ones & has not died on me since

Ouch, 5 charges seems little.. I just got new batts too. Hope for the best :thumbsup:

Trying to figure out which "energizer" batteries you are using? Possible to link up to some product info via Google, etc? I don't remember seeing any energizer related products that have low discharge rate nor alkaline/lithium type, but I may be outdated.

You may experienced damage of batteries by oem charger if you are not using the original charger. Yes I do agree that energizer rechargeable can spoil rather quickly. I once use a GP charger on energizer and after 10+ charger I guess, the battery started to loss power very fast.

I am using the energizer battery which is the same as HERE And i went to the energizer website to check, here is what they said:

"11.How long will a nickel metal hydride battery hold its charge?

When not in use, nickel metal hydride batteries will lose 20% to 50% of their charge within six months due to self-discharge. Several factors such as cell size, construction and storage temperature can impact the self discharge rate. NiMH batteries that have not been used for an extended period of time should be recharged before being put into use to obtain maximum performance."

May i know what is oem? haha, i was using energizer battery with energizer charger..oh well, guess all good things come to an end.

Ouch, 5 charges seems little.. I just got new batts too. Hope for the best :thumbsup:

I do not use energizers. I use sanyo, eneloops & the 2700. I find these 2 pretty good. See if you can get it changed for new ones.

I just went to purchase eneloops, looks like they have quite good reviews.

Low Self Discharge NiMH rechargeable batteries means they can hold their charge much much longer and they operate at a higher voltage level.

Basically we should use these LSD NiMH in high / mid drain equipment like flashes and toys.

Eneloop is from Sanyo, Recyclo is from GP there is a few other brands but not available in S'pore, but they are the same technology.
You can read all about their difference from the normal alkaline and NiMH on the official site.

Same thing I got too, Imedions are going fine after 2 years, while energizers died

They operate at a higher voltage level? You sure they are NiMh?

Sadly I only have the very basic charger, so nothing I can do about them :dunno:

Usually you use the batteries often or not, it will die off in a period of 2-4 years. So it is advisable to standby with some alkaline batteries while on assignments.
