How to identify the compatible lenses for the canon 550D. I am new to SLR and need to get a 70-300 lens.. is thias 75-300 mm III USM compatible?anyone help thks.

All the EF and EFs lenses will fit. EF 75-300 isn't very good optically though. EFs 55-250 IS is more useful.

Yes agree.
For Canon lens, all EF and EFS will fit into 550D. For 3rd party lens, such as sigma, just look for Canon mount. Even though for Sigma there is also "only for crop body lens and lens can use for both crop and full frame", but since yours is 550D, just any sigma will do.

70-300 is a good lens, as well as 55-250 IS. Not 75-300, though.
