We see the prime lenses now. How likely will we see the Zeiss zoom lenses in non Sony mount?

If they make the 24-70 in EF mount, then I will sell my ZE 35f2, 50F1.4 and CY 85 f1.4 and also do not need to wait for the ZE 25f2.8. Infact, if they can just remake the 35-70f3.4 as a ZE MF zoom, 2 touch, I will be more than happy.

just curious, is Zeiss ever famous for their zooms? Sorry I don't have experience with MF or RF so sorry if this Q sounds stupid.

I know Zeiss/Leica are famous for their primes only.

Out of the 4 main 24-70 f2.8s, Canon, Nikon, Sigma and Sony Zeiss, the Sony Zeiss 24-70f2.8 is rated the best by many reviewers.

I am in for Z 24-70f2.8 in EF mount too.

Unless Z cut collaboration with Sony, otherwise it is just a dream :)

the Contax G series rangefinders had and short zoom (the 35~70mm f/3.5-5.6 Vario-Sonnar) before they stopped production of the camera system ... really nice

Very unlikely as i've attended the zeiss launch organised by shirro in the early march.
The engineer from germany said, no macro motor is able to drive zeiss manual focus precision as there will be some "play" on the lens.

rated best but the difference is splitting hair. worth it?

If it's a fact, whether it's worth it or not, the end user has to decide. IMO, for those who care, yes, but for me, b4 I pay such a hefty sum for Canon's 24-70L, I want to know the alternatives.

Of all the 24-70 lenses, the Canon is actually surprisingly bad (based on reviews).

sharpness is overrated. i rather spend the time taking better pics than be too obsessed with how sharp the lenses are.

That's exactly the point. Zeiss is never the sharpest, nor the quickest compared to the rest, yet it's the overwelming favorite for the type of photos it can render.

it's a pretty old model FYI. An update is expected soon I think... Possibly with IS :)

Then buy a LEICA :) 35-70 R

how much of it is real appreciation of what it can render and how much of it is from blind fanaticism? i wonder.

Figure it would be pretty darned difficult for a blind person to tell the difference.

maybe we should do a blind test.

Very interesting discussion there.

Well, we have:
Cat A: Leica and CZ
Cat B: N-F, C-EF, S-CZ
Cat C: Sg, Tk, Tm

Well, apart from Optical quality, there are many other attributes of a lens that I would look for. And if the diff between Cat A and Cat B is akin to splitting hair, then, what about the diff between Cat B and Cat C?

Well, most of my lenses are in Cat C. Except for the Nk 50mmF1.8, which is the cheapest prime lens around.:bsmilie:
