I am thinking of getting a compact camera for carrying around daily and also for taking HD videos. Best if it has longer zoom.

I have done some research and shortlisted these few models. Any users of these cameras can advise me on the pros and cons? I am not too familiar with these models and there doesnt seems to be many reviews/comments on their IQ online. Although my priority is video but the IQ must be at least better than my current Panny LZ10. I heard from users of TZ7 that its HD video is pretty good but can't find much info on the HD video capabilities of the Canon cameras.

1) Canon Ixus 200 IS (12.1 MP)
2) Canon Ixus 210 IS (14.1 MP)
3) Canon PowerShot SX210 IS (14.1 MP)
4) Panasonic TZ7 (10.1 MP)
5) Panasonic TZ10 (12.1 MP)

what about the canon g11? does HD video if i'm not wrong..

Hi,
I've been reading up alot on this too and I'm currently inclined to purchase the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS as soon as it's released in Singapore.
The reason being that it has great zoom (14x Optical Zoom, 28-392mm), HD video recording (720p), advanced controls (AV, TV and Manual modes), Low Light mode, and Smart Shutter modes (shutter-release activated by a smile or wink, self-timer countdown only starts after a new face is detected in the frame). The fisheye and miniature effects are fun bonuses too.

Good luck with your camera hunt!

The AVCHD 1080i video on the new Sonys is great too.

since main priority is video...then why not just get video cam....it can also take photo btw....

bro video camera abit too big and my other priority is pocketability. It must be something small enough that I can carry with me everyday and anywhere. That's why I am considering the Ixus as well.

bro which Sony models you referring to? Or you mean the new mirrorless system that Sony announced?

Nope. The TX7 and HX5V.

HX5V and TX7 does 1080 .. its one of the best video mode still camera so far in term pf purely spec... but sony still camera always been good with their video so i dont expect anything too bad

and the HX5v has great still photo capability ... btw 10x zoom and 14x .. the diff is not a lot.. u can always cropped the 10mp photo to zoom in further

if your main priority is video, why don't you get a video cam... it takes still pics as well (which is your "2nd priority" i suppose?), and some are small enough to be carried around daily...

I think still cams takes better video (and great still photos) .. while those small pocket size video cam can take great video (but terrible stills photos)

so better get a PnS with good video as compared to a video cam that does not take good stills

Hi, TZ10 has 12mp, 4000x3000,60sec shutter max speed, min 1/2000sec, exp bkting, 25-300mm, min focusing range 0.03m, opt.zoom 12x, leica lens, aspect ratio include 3.2,16.9.4.3
flash guide 5.30m/iso 100, red eye red. yes, display pixels 46k, battery capa 895mah, continous shooting 10 f/ps 5 frames jpeg, CCD
HX5 has cmos, 1920x1080, 125-3200iso, and panorama built-in program.

Thanks bro! Just went to the Sony subforum and read up on these 2 cameras. My heart is leaning towards the HX5V now. I really like the 10x zoom and the full HD video recording.
