Wide Angle Lens

I am thinking of buying a wide angle lens. At the moment i only have Canon EFS17-55 IS USM

EF16-35mm f/2.8L II USM
Angle of View
(horizontal . vertical . diagonal) 98°~54°.74 °10'~38°.108°10'~63°

EF-S10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
97°10'~54°30' . 74°10'~37°50' . 107°30'~63°30'

EF17-40mm f/4L USM
93°~49°20' . 70°30'~34° . 104°~57°30'


Between the EF16-35 and EFS10-22 is only approx 1 degree wider so it doesnt make sense to pay the extra ?

BTW, not considering other brands.

The 2 EF lenses, the angle of view is calculated based on the view mounted on a full frame camera.

The EF-S lens, the angle of view is calculated based on the view mounted on a cropped camera.

So knowing this, now a question for you, which lens has the widest angle of view, when mounted on a cropped camera?

Erm. You need to read beyond the calculations and understand how they are derived instead of blindly copy-pasting. If both of these lenses are used on a crop sensor body, there's a MUCH bigger difference between the two.

Do note that u are still on APC sensor (1.6 crop): - Choices 1 and 3 are FF lens, it won't give u the ultra wideness u desired as only the center portion is used. You will end up having a narrower fov than ur current 17-55..

I will go with EF-S10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM or if $ is a concern; Sigma 10-20 or Tokina 11-16

It is not the L thing that tells you it is FF. It is the EF designation that tells you it is FF.

In the list only the EFS 10-22mm is truely wide , so buy it if you need it !!

bro u clearly need to familiarize yourself with the canon lens line-up man.

given the 3 options u listed, only 1 is a UWA on crop and that is 10-22.

i am not a canon user but i suggest TS to try out at shops like J316 first before concluding?

i would invest in a f2.8 for a long term thingy correct me if i am wrong

I think what some seniors have commented is that those UWA for FF when used on my 7D (1.6) will no longer be UWA. So only options is 10-22 ...
