I'm still searching for the lens mention above, just wanna do some research with fellow macro buddies out there, I'm planning to shoot flowers but mostly insect or even animals in zoo, bird park etc... My concern now is which filter or adaptor should I get? Do u guys get multiple required for switching around? What is the diameter of the lens, if possible can share the details what individual filter /adaptor is for and lastly the price.

Thanks

62mm thread. U need one for stretching ur reproduction ratio or merely for general protection? Personally I dun use filter at all for my 105VR, extra glass compromise quality as i wan to optimize lens max potential? If u bend on getting an UV, make sure u get the gd ones :)

Hijack e thread... :)

Current I'm aso into macro & using the above lens... one thing i know is I cant go real close to the object/insects esp when they are very tiny...(lens to object ard 1 feet)
when I crop it.. will be blur :(...

Is there a way i can get the object as close as possible without changing lens. Using DX cam instead of FX will do the trick due to the 1.5crop?

Thanks

To deal with real tiny subjects, shoot on DX, use extension tubes or close up flter to improve reproduction ratio.. Tats what i will do.. else i will do reverse macro..U need adapters that let you reverse mount two lenses together, You 'll see u get a lot of magnification and a super-shallow DoF, so a lot of light and a fairly fast shutter speed are important to counter the hand shake if shooting handheld.

hm...extension tubes, close up filter... any recommendation? How about this raynox thingy?
Thanks :D

Sorry for the late reply. I need a filter to magnified the insect, not into extention tube as I do not have any ext flash yet, something compact that attach to lens and doesn't affect IQ will do, I only have a budget of 1.5k to spend on lens n filter... I'm broke after that

Kinda curious if that raynox work? Oh ya I know certain type of Len has gap on the front like those 18-105 kit lens that dust will get in anytime if filter is not on as compare to 50mm prime lens that doesn't need any filter because it doesn't have any gap at all due to the curve lens in front, is 105vr with those gaps?? hope u guy knows wat I mean.

it works, i used it on my 105VR and 200MicroF4, amazing results i find.

Dust is inevitable and its all ard us.. It will bound to enter somehow. It won't affect ur IQ anyway.. 105Vr is a prime just like 50mm, so ur concerns are addressed and assured.

How do you focus? by moving in/out (cam) or manual focus or BOTH ? Thanks

Thank bro num, just curious u shoot handheld with ur 200mm ?
