Decided to purchase a prosumer camera...but reading the reviews shook me a lot....

1)cannon powershot SX100 IS
2)Cannon powershot S5 IS

These are the models i decided to bring onto the list...they both have their advantages and disadvantages...please advise.

Since you know both has it's own advantages and disadvantages and we do not know what are the disadvantages that you can accept, I guess only you can answer the question yourself.

1)Batteries:Any type.

2)Flash:any type

3)Zoom range

Here you go. Please?

From your quick list. These words will set your perspective well.

- AA batteries have pros and cons. You need AA rechargeables and at least a lithium AA to power them well. In very low usage, AA lithium (non recharge) can last long. Like mobile phones, I am sure you can decide on the advantages/disadvantages.

- All hotshoe can take any flash is true BUT the question is automatic sync with camera. The basic guideline is Canon camera only works with Canon flash (ignore the OEM compatibles first).

- Zoom. High zoom, low zoom. Your choice. High zoom doesn't mean you will be using it. More zoom more bigger size cam. People have legs to move.

All I can tell you is these prosumer camera at best iso800, no more. But a bounce flash (flash+diffuser) will really give you a good consistent indoor illumination keep iso low. Don't buy the biggest flash, it will make your setup looks weird.

Do you prefer canon? Your prefered models seems obsolete.
Why not go for G11

TS is talking about prosumer not consumer cams.

I'm lost too.

rofl he threw a bunch of "sub consumer" cameras and called them prosumer?

tats why i mentioned dslr being consumers. get a 1000d. cheap and way better than both mentioned

A dslr? it's really huge, and may i ask if can put out a budget for other stuff if i manage to get a DSLR 1000D?

Assuming that DSLR 1000D kit comes with a 15-55mm lens, and buying it at 800.

Get a Sony A230 then. $600 flat gets you a camera and a kit lens.

actually using a PnS now...but composition of pics are still not good... somehow, feel that the camera is limiting me....

No. Composition is purely the photographer. Don't blame it on the camera.

In what way is the camera limiting you? Not sharp enough? Not bright enogh?
No. Composition is purely the photographer. Don't blame it on the camera.

Wat matters most is your composition (framing) and the way your inner creativity views the pictures in a beautiful way.

Unless the camera somehow affects your mind, dulling your creavity, your ability to compose, nah don't think that a camera can limit you.:nono:

tats probably the worst thing i heard here.

the last time i shot with a pns i won a moe award for racial harmony. tat was like p6 and it was nationals. against sec sch too i think.

after i jumped to my dslr, suddenly i'm not winning anymore.:dunno:

i find pns being able to bring out creativity, since u dun need to do a lot of calculations. sometimes shooting blind is better.

If PnS limit your composition, the weight & size of a prosumer & DSLR will be even worse
