Hi, im newbie + noobie here :p
Needs help on purchasing a new entry to mid level DSLR....
Have reviewed some models and finally settled down between these 2models,
Sony A330 & Pentax K-X. Sony seems to be a good reputable brand and Pentax seems
to have better functionalities.....
Hopefully can someone enlighten me which is the best choice???
And also usually what comes together in the standard camera package box?
Which are the standard accessories i need to buy also?
Thanks a million in advance

Have you tried holding them in your hands? That's the most important thing. Go out and try to test them in your hands.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/com...side&cameras=sony_dslra330,pentax_kx&show=all

in nutshell:

1) pentax k-x more resolution megapixels wise
2) cmos versus ccd (not very important if you ask me)
3) true base iso 100 on sony versus 200 on pentax
4) max shutter 1/4000 for sony versus 1/6000 for pentax
5) 4.7 fps on pentax versus 2.5 on sony
6) lithium ion battery for sony versus aa for pentax

both are quite similar on paper. pentax is also a good reputable brand, btw.

Welcome to CS:)

And have fun choosing your camera.

Welcome to CS :) Check out the pentax & sony section. Compare the specs, go to the shops & get a feel of it, then decide ;)

KX - more body colors to choose (but if you prefer black then it doesn't matter)

A330 - articulating LCD screen. To some this is very useful coz of the style and composition they want to take

Again both are good. So depends on what you need and prefer

Sony is based on Minolta, also a very reputable brand with many firsts in the industry.

So let's stick to the present-day.

no la, the TS said that sony is a reputable company.

i think pinholecam merely sought to explain that pentax is also an old brand, and i'm quite sure it can be considered reputable... right? it's not like it makes cameras that fall apart in your hands after 5 days. :dunno:

Actually I was replying to pinholecam, not the TS. :)

By the word then Sony is from only a few year ago
Minolta is history... :D
Did I slam Sony as non reputable as a DSLR maker?

Just want to make clear to TS in case he does not know that Pentax is not a new comer to the industry.

Hello...welcome.

Both are very good cameras. As bro Rashkae has mentioned, do try the cameras out in the shop. Personally I don't find the grip on the A330 very comfortable, but the A500 is a different story.

The Pentax K-x is impressive in terms of specs but I would also like the usefulness of the articulating LCD and with the current promotion on the A500 + VG + Lowepro bag, it may be a better buy.

I believe both cameras are good to start with. In terms of strengths, each has its own. So what is really more important to you, look for it and buy that.

Wow...Thanks everyone for ur wonderful advice :D

Have tried out the A330 but not yet on the K-X;p

should compare K-x vs A500 .. Kx vs A330 of course k-x for sure..

if i m not wrong, A500 still giving free Vg+lowepro bag.. if so the price of kx vs A500 shld be on per..

http://www.sony.com.sg/microsite/dslr/promotion/promotion.html#a500 see here

A500 is a bit overbudget for me so only comparing K-X & A330 ;)

By the way, is it ok to jus purchase the single lens 18-55mm package or have to take the
dual lens package? Would be taking more night shots so i need a clear and sharp lens ;)

As im really new in this,i have no idea what does it comes together in the box.
Have called up manly to check for the K-X, they only have the single lens as of now.
Box comes with camera, lens and sanyo eneloop batteries.
But however, called up another shop in funan, box only comes with camera and lens only without batteries. Have to purchase separately for it....
Is this normal for all shops? Without batteries???

Where can i purchase cheap camera bags (suitable for gals) , filters, lcd protector, SD cards, and other standard accessories???

And what else do i need?

THanks a million ;p

The dual lens kit is normally the kit lens, and a telephoto like a 55-200. Image quality is the same, it's the range that's different.

All this stuff has been asked 1,000 times before. Just search for "recommend bag", etc etc.

In most cases, the shop you buy the camera from (like MS Color, Cathay) will already have a large selection of what you're looking for.

Call both shops again and check on the batteries. As far as I know, the current standard promotion package comes with 4 lithium AA batteries, not eneloops.
