So the story goes like this:

An uneventful Wednesday afternoon, only to be marred by the stupidest, silliest and costliest accident I've ever had and also my virgin accident with this car.....

I was fetching my friend back home and he sat beside me with his sling bag across his chest. Pulling out of the car park, I did a left turn and headed down the stretch of road along NTU that was opposite SIMtech and I reminded him to put on his seatbelt as the seatbelt warning sign was beeping.

Me: Chuck your bag to the rear seat
Him: Ok

And he turned around to place his crumpler sling bag on my rear seat. I noticed that my Camera was sitting on the left side of the rear seat thus I slowed down and turned around telling him to watch out. It was then, in a spate of loss concentration and obliviousness, my left wheel mounted the kerb.

Swinging the steering wheel back and braking didn't do much help since the car was in a slanted position and sure enough, WHAM! I hit the lamp post.

I estimated the impact to be around 20km/h since I could see it all happen pretty clearly....Asked if my friend was alright as he was grabbing on to the seatbelt and his head hit the windscreen.

No external injuries but a slight concussion and abit of a headache (that idiot was still posing for photos with the car 20 mins after the accident when bystanders took photo of it....)

Anyway, I would say this is all my fault for not paying attention to the road and i was lucky since there were no cars or jay walkers at that time of the incident...Hope bros out there can be careful.

Saved a 4k camera and incurred a 30K~40K repair fee.....Plus increased insurance premium....zzz.....

The front wheel well and front wheel took most of the impact and as a result, there was extensive damage to the front suspension, linkages, and steering....zzzzz

Sure doesn't look like a 20km/hr crash to me considering you are driving a Mercedes. Be glad that you and your passenger are ok.

your friend really banged his head against the windscreen and cracked it...?? hope no internal brain damage :p... anyway, both of you are ok and that is the most important thing :)

That seriously looks faster than just 20kph, dude. Bad luck that you had to hit the area where so many expensive parts are.

The area I hit was so called the impact absorption zone according to the Dudes at the mercedes repair centre. So it was like a "softspot" right between the centre and the side seams .....

I'm alright....He called alot of ppl to tell the story about him cracking the windscreen with his head though....:bsmilie:

wah ... your camera really cost you a lot man.

ur repair cost is the cost of a second hand car alr.... heart pain.

That's the real fault there. don't blame the camera. You took your eyes off the road, and rather than pulling to the side, stopping and adjusting, you continued driving while twisted around.

Pure recklessness on your part, very lucky nobody on the side of the road was injured by your carelessness.

Spare parts are expensive...Even I was shocked at the price....At most the bag hit my 50mm $200....But now its 30 to 40k....zzzz

bro.. better tell your friend to go for a checkup. better be safe.

that looks like a huge impact. drive safe my friends....

Yeah, that's why.....I don't know why but as of late, I've been zoning out a little whenever I drive....I think it might be due to long days and the lack of sleep...Guess I'll need to take a break for now....Dangerous me....

Yeah, I did offer to cab him down to the nearest hospital for checkup but he said its alright for now....:dunno:

That's why they always emphasis on belting up before you move off...And I ALWAYS tell my passengers to belt up....You never know when an accident may happen and in this case, we were just 50m away from the carpark....

sorry to hear that.

i know our gear is expensive, but i think more importantly than the car is the fact that lives were at risk, and that is never a good price to pay for any material possession.

What has happened has happened. A lesson learnt. Just make sure it is not done, again.

As what the others mentioned, besst to get your friend to do a thorough checkup of his head. An impact great enough to crack the windscreen definitely warrants a thorough checkup of the head. Outside might seem fine, inside, no one knows.

The GOOD news is ...

You and your friend are relatively unharmed. :)

All the best, and I am sorry to hear about your bad scrape.

It's only money lah. Count yourself lucky did not bang into another person o/w you hv to perform the 'Romanian Disappearing Act':bsmilie:

Time to get that new E250 & if you need one I can recommend you where to trade in your old wreck for a new one:lovegrin:

You sure your friend ok ? That windscreen crack seems serious ! You need a lot of force to crack a windscreen. Some injuries do not manifest itself until much later so your friend better go for a checkup.

Ouch... Even 1 year of my salary cannot afford your repairs~! >.<
