Hi fellow Pentaxians.
Over the past three months, I have been searching for a dslr to replace my film slr. But budget is tight so the choices were canon 500d, sony a330, nikon 5000 / d40 (2nd hand) and the k-x. Among these, the sony a330 and k-x were most fittting for my budget. Tested both in two wonderful cam shops and ultimately took the k-x home.
During the night, casually shot a picture at the opposite block at iso 3200, with window closed, without flash (no point anyway, subject at 100m away), and wow, i was pleasantly pleased with the results. Did another shot in the room at my film slr at iso 3200 also.
This k-x is impressive indeed at high iso setting. No regret AT ALL with this aquisition. :)

But do K-X high ISO able to help to produce a good picture in low light situation without using flash?

Hello and welcome :)
Just wondering, which are these two shops that let you test and play around with the K-x?

Haha.. I'm sure most of you know already.
Newbies like me may not know and would like to see a sample or two, thus the reason for this post. (nothing to boast about) :)
Then the dark side will expand in numbers.

IMHO, as to whether a good picture can be produce in low light situation without flash, it will have to depend on your subject and whether low lighting will make the picture look better (effects) or vice versa. It's really subjective to one's perception. :)

Welcome to the Pentaxians' family. Kx is indeed a great performer for high ISO.

lol
Personally, I don't like to go down this line of logic.
Its like opening a can of beans using a hammer and chisel while we could have just used a can opener. (ie. still gets it done, but messy)
Good picture quality is subjective (depends on what level you view it) and the condition where the picture was taken. Noise can be much more obvious in dark/black areas, so if your picture has a lot of it, it may be unacceptable to you (eg. see TS 1st shot (the dark sky area)).

Very often we are better off with flash (higher ISO will certainly be noiser and loss in details);
On the other hand, many images are just fine with being grainy.
Just switch your camera to B/W and shoot in high/noisy ISO; then shoot in color at the same ISO. I tend to find that B/W opens up the margin of acceptability for the noise.

I think Pentax can change their "Be Interesting" to "Be Impressed". This K-x really kick ass in the high ISO category.

Wah Nanoo,...F3HP... I used this workhorse many, many moons ago... rugged and reliable.
Study Tom Ang's book inside out and you'll definitely be a power shooter.
I'm sure your K-x is gonna keep impressing you... especially when you eventually start you lens buying addiction. :)

Thanks creampuff. Ya, the F3 is really rugged and reliable.
Picked up this book in the library after reading a few pages of it. He really showed me things i thought is a piece of cake but is not in practice. I certainly hope k-x will help me in this quest to improve in photograhpy until its limitations reached.
And YES..poison... i hope to buy some smc lens, particularly the 55mm f1.4.

You actually managed to pick that book off the library shelf! You are one lucky dude. Tom Ang's photography books are constantly on loan.

Woah...did'nt know that. All the more must keep until NLB come banging at my door. Haha

KX sure i damn good with their ISO. I also Impressed. I usually believed Canon was better when seeing their 50D test. But Kx just awe me more. When I bought the Kx I still cannot believe their ISO is great but when tested it, Its very impressive.

Loving it everyday.

I just got AF360FGZ today after selling off my Panasonic and Ipod touch which has become White Elephant in my drawer. Lol. Funny part, went to Bally and ask abt Sigma Flash but the salesperson said its not for Pentax. I thought its P-TTL? he said its for Canon.

Next target is 50mm 1.4! or this lense and that lense. Poison too strong liao!
