Hello clubsnapers~ I'm new here and so is my camera. I don't really know what to shoot so I just try out a little with my old phone.

1. In which area is critique or feedback to be given?
Lighting, framing, composition and shooting skills.

2. What were you hoping to achieve with this image?
I wanted to capture some details on my old phone as well as my own hand. And hopefully I can create some "unable to get go" kind of feel.

3. Under what circumstance was the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
The wear and tear of an old samsung phone. Though not in good condition, it's owner was still using it. These photos are taken under natural day light with gray background.

4. Thread-starter's personal thoughts about the image.
I thought it would be slightly better if I had framed it abit tighter to reduce a bit of space on the right.

Don't hold back and relax. Just cc with full force.

Looks a bit like a stock image, I attribute it to your well maintained nails. :p

I think if you hand was a bit more grimy or dirty it would gel better with your phone. Technically it looks fine, but seems to lack an emotion. The phone seems dead, maybe if you added the lcd display it would look a lot more alive. The picture needs a kick. Why can't you let it go? You haven't expressed that.

Don't see a lot of well lighted images here. Keep it up!

I like your approach of using natural light source, especiallythe light reflection from the middle finger to the pinky adds details to the phone and hence brings life to it, that's part of still life.
Good scaling effect too, as the phone rest within your palm it shows the size of it.
However, ( must have a little bit of fault, right ? ) the grip didn't look too natural, from my point of view, the missing thumb do take away some point here.

hmmm this phone really really look familliar.. i think i saw it some place in some army camp in some dark place... omg did i say in some army camp? lol.. i can feel the power in Nikon D90... it rockz !! hmmm...

Enough of talks... good attempt...lighting is good.. have the strength of tightness over the phone... i felt that it can be even better if its in black n white.. shows the loneiness of the phone... and the ring on the middle can be removed to isolate the phone even better... a NOOB comments though.. don take it to heart... shoot more SHOOT MORE!!!

newbie comments here:

1st, i love the lighting. may i ask what's the source?

2nd, you mentioned the "unable to let go". I only see the strength at the wrist area. the fingers part, if there's strength applied, there will be obvious grip sign such as the nails there turn pale yellow? (i dont know how to describe, but its the color when you press your finger on a hard object and the blood flow got restricted to that part, yea, that kind). i suppose you are being careful with the posing hence a more gentle results shown.

love the gritty feel of the phone-in-hand.....VERY interesting patterns (tattoos?) on the palm of the hand too

Thanks but I was just lazy to cut my nails. haha. The phone was kind of dead anyway. Maybe I should have some dirt on my hand.

I spent some time on this photo and I was frustrated about the minimum focus distance and framing. And so I put in "too much" effort in gripping it. hehe.

The source of light was from the sun. What I did was to position myself until I get the lighting I want. ( because I can't change the direction of the sun:p ) Looks like I need to work on my posing. There was "strength" at my wrist area because I was trying to bring the camera further away.

Nope, not tattoo. I guess I'm becoming old:(

I appreciate all your comments and I felt kind of "improved":bsmilie:
