I dont know where else to post actually.

I'm actually intending to get a diamond ring of maybe 0.3c as a present. Kinda small carat but its what the heart feels that's important.

I know my other half(gf) would scream for spending moolah unnecessarily but I guess it's the least i could do- thats why something small.

Anyone could give advise on how much it'll cost, where's the best place to go look/ask and any other info would seriously be great

regards,
meen

there are a few things you have to coinsider...
besides carat.

color (best quality is D which is equal to $$$$)
clarity (clear rating is equal to more $$$$)
and cut (adds sparkle to the rock... and also adds $$$)

some diamonds have serial numbers on the side to certify that it is of good quality

i suggest you buy from reputable stores... and always ... i repeat ALWAYS ask for discount, believe me, even big stores in the malls can give discounts on diamond rings. dont be shy to ask.

you can get from lee hwa and goldheart. the highend will be larrys and tiffanys.

0.3c depending on the grade (cut, clarity, carat and color) will vary from $500 to $1500. also whether the ring is set in gold, white gold or platinum contributes to the cost.

on a side note, you don't normally give your gf a diamond ring as a "present". call me old fashioned but to give a diamond ring means you are proposing to her so you may be setting some expectations. :bsmilie:

hehe...though im still young..i feelits time to move one step further ;)

actually.. why i ask is because she's not into diamonds.. but i do wanna give her something special.. i know she'll scream for spending money on thingslike this...

alas, another question, prices : cheapest to mid range ? $100?$200? etc..

what i dont comprehend is the carats and points

If diamonds are not her thing, maybe you could consider the purple gold series from Lee Hwa. Something different. I think a number of the other smaller jewellers have a purple gold-like series as well which may be cheaper.

bro question is not whether she is into diamonds or not. it is what she and her friends may think. if u give her a diamond ring her friends might think she is engaged! and if she's not comfortable with that she will end up not wearing the ring. my 2 cents lah.

if she's not into diamond rings, i suggest getting something from tiffanys. with a budget of $300-$500, you can get a pretty ring or necklace. and it is more value for money!

thanks a million for the input guys! She likes purple.. so it's quite a good idea for the purple gold then :) i'll visit the jewellery stores tomorrow :)

Keep going. A 0.3ct AGDM Champaigne diamond will set you back at least 25K USD if it's flawless with an 8x loupe.

To the TS
If she likes purple than amethyst could be a great stone to look for.

make something for her

that would probably count for more and burn your pocket less.

if your other half is like mine, whom doesnt like jewellery nor all that.. your best best would be getting a nice pair of diamond ear studs than a ring.

i got a pair of studs for her for vdae this year, luckily no tongue lashing on wasting $$ etc.. although it was huge cut from my 24mm f1.4 budget. so gonna hold back on lens purchase for a couple more months.

the cost is less than a mid-range DSLR such as 50D / D300, so TS' GF should not scream as loud as when TS upgrades his DSLR.

on a side note, you don't normally give your gf a diamond ring as a "present". call me old fashioned but to give a diamond ring means you are proposing to her so you may be setting some expectations. :bsmilie:

expectation #1: She expects TS to propose. Solvable.
expectation #2: next time when TS actually proposes to her, must be bigger than 0.3ct! Likely 1.0ct since 0.5ct not so much bigger than 0.3ct. Dangerous!!!
