Wow, it's been a decade since I've driven up to MY.

Must be lots of changes since then...

Going up coz an uncle just passed away.

How safe is it nowadays to drive up to KL? Or is it better to take the train/coach or fly in.

Read about changes to the tolls at Causeway/Tuas immigration...about need to buy cards instead of cash for toll fees...what about the rest of the highway tolls - do they still accept cash or is it all payments by cards. :)

Still accept cash but since you are going to need the Touch'N'Go cards for custom clearance anyway, you might as well use it to pay for the toil charges. Driving up to KL on the NS Highway is a breeze, no major issues other than the usual speed traps but if you keep to the speed limit, it's just a straight 4hr drive up.

Royal Malaysian Police will also start accepting on-site payments of traffic fines with Touch'n Go cards. :bsmilie:

Apologise for O.T.

thanks, folks.

is the white card still being used...or have the MY immigration dropped its use??

...won't give them a chance at all. ;)

Don't stop in Johor. Lots of ppl I know got mugged in the highway rest areas in Johor.

The Malaysian disembarkation/embarkation (D/E) immigration card still must be filled and presented though frequent Singaporean travellers and visitors can register for access through the Malaysia Automated Clearance System (MACS). ;)

Singaporeans given access to the Malaysia Automated Clearance System (MACS).

if u are not staying too long and not travelling around, suggest u take nite train from s'pore and will reach KL around next day morning ard 7am.. from there u can take taxi/LRT which is much cheaper and faster. The train is quite comfortable (double story bed) and just beware of ur wallet and passport.

if you ask me, for the price of petrol+ toll booths to and from singapore, you might as well buy a bus ticket

That depends really. Do you need the use of the car when you're back in KL? Where exactly in KL?
I can no longer survive driving in KL, have lost my combat-driving skills ;p
Can't tailgate, can't prevent people from cutting in, not aggressive enough to inch in, no one gives a crap about letting you through...
Although generic anti-hypertensives can be found cheaply in KL too, I've decided it's not quite worth the hassle.
Flights take me over now, or if I feel like it, I take the train; take cab, get over to JB, buy tickets, eat dinner and take the night express - sleep and reach KL Sentral at a rather decent morning time

You may want to try the Aeroline buses that depart from Vivo. Ticket about SGD40++. Comfortable with meals. Stops in a few places in KL (Sunway, 1 Utama etc). ETA 5 hours.

KTM train is also SGD40++ but takes 12 hours to get to KL. Its only a good option if you buy in MY where it costs only MYR40++.

Cab's in Kl are cheap and efficient  just dont take the one's from the hotel concierge which have inflated prices

thanks guys for the inputs...

my cousin living in KL itself also advised against driving up in an SG plated car.

so...train or coach it is!

take a luxury VIP coach..... very comfortable, some are installed with massage chairs and come with F&B

Eh? KL taxis were voted worst in the world recently - dirty, hostile driver, may even get mugged by the driver!

ha, ha...read about that too! :(

I wonder some of you who make the unnessary bad comments about driving up to KL have ever been there or just rely on the media or hear say for knowledge. I had a friend who like to say lots of bad stuffs about Malaysia but I found out he has never left Singapore for this entire lifetime.

For a start, you may consider driving up north because it is a pleasant drive compared to driving on Singapore expressway. I attended meeting once in a while in KL and I preferred driving than taking plane.

thats quite true. but rather be safe than sorry. i know of someone personally who was raped and robbed while driving up. also, the toll fees+petrol fees are better spent on f&b and travel tickets . that is my opinion :)
