Hi Guys,

pardon me for my lack of knowledge. But is there any warranty for the filter? I searched Hoya website and it was not very helpful. I searched this forum as well and only managed to see a lot of threads for Buy/Sell.

I was using the CPL and trying to unscrew it by taking out. Suddenly, the thing glass element of the filter just came off and dislodge from other piece of the CPL. And the very very thin metal ring actually snaps.

I was not even using any force strength. This marks my 4th time removing it from my lens. My heart pain as it didnt come cheap as well for this CPL, having bought ard $190 from shop when I didnt even know the market price yet.

I did a search from the internet and realised that some ppl having similar problem too.

part of mine at the edge, the glass flaked off, and the inner wire came out.... and I haven't even used the damned filter yet... less than 1 week old...

wah..less than a week? That's very bad. U managed to get it change? Sounds like some production problem for ur piece.

One of my HD CPL has a funny looking defect on the glass near the rim, almost like its about to crack! But so far so good for the last few months.

wa, my HOYA HD CPL looks ok and I have been using it for about a month. Hope nothing happens to mine.

wah.. HD suppose to be harder right... scary

never actually enquire bout warranty for lens filter....doubt there is one...

I've read about this problem. That is why I stayed away from Hoya HD CPL.

This is only one reference I can find now. But I've read the same complaints at a couple of other sites last year but can't seem to locate them again.

I presume that the Hoya HD also use spring clip to secure the glass rather than screw on ring. I had my encounter too, I dropped the whole filter on a brick ground and the spring clip came off sending the glass rolling. My mind was thinking oh no no no; surpringly the glass was not broken except for the dent on the metal rim.

But that is where I encountered another thing call chance. I quickly picked the glass up and refitted the ring back without thinking that CPL glass can only polarize on one side. Fortunately, the first fit direction was correct, a 50/50 chance. :bsmilie:

i do not know about HD CPL, but CPL, one of my acquaintances had that problem, we went to the bugis area, some building where the supplier of hoya is.

the lady there had a very off-putting attitude, she was very reluctant to do anything for a filter that came apart in less than 2 weeks. in the end, she agreed very grudgingly to get her staff to try to put it together again, but it was a very unhappy experience. that and becoming very defensive when i asked her about hoya r72s being short in stock everywhere in singapore for no rhyme or reason. claimed shortage of material supplies..... yet usa and europe were flush with r72 at that time.

you can try your luck.

I hate to say it, but back in the days where most filters are thick as hell, they were rock solid.

My dad had a very old Hoya CPL and the metal parts were hella solid. But the bloody thing is too thick that I sold it for cheap on BnS. They don't make it like they used to.

I dropped a Kenko protector once when a dog came to my side and surprised me while I am packing up my cokins and putting the protector back on. Thought the bugger was going to pee on me. Anyway, the filter fell on cement and came loose. Glass was ok (not even scratched) and so was the main ring, but the retention ring was gone.
