Sunny Singapore!
Ok guys,

Just wondering what i should do now. Yes once again i think paranoia is getting the best of me ;p. Anyways, i just picked up my D700 today from MS Color (amk hub), they had like the last set left on the shelf. So i got home, took everything out and started rigging up the cam, i realized that the box was pretty cruddy. Like the flaps were torn, there was this pretty large, thumb size indentation on one of the edges. Camera appeared pristine tho, no scratches, battle scars whatsoever.

Just wondering if im thinking too much or there could have been some mishaps along the way and possibly some physical damage done to the body itself. Has anyone else experienced such a case? Idk, couldnt really help buy wonder if the cam has been dropped or abused in anyway :(

"internal injuries" will be hard to tell? Only time can tell.

Perhaps u wanna check ur shutter count also?

You have local warranty and (afaik) MS Color practices 1:1 exchange within 7 days. So test everything properly within the 7 days. Secondly, the boxes have inserts, meant to absorb all kind of bumps and shocks that can occur during transport. Even a drop from table level will not reach the camera, but will leave marks at the box.
They might have swapped boxes for extreme picky customers who also expect a pristine box :)

That would be someone like me :D Unless I am buying a used unit, I do expect a pristine box. Like TS, I would start to wonder what happened to the box and the unit to leave a box looking battled.

I think im gonna head down to MS and ask around. Just noticed a real thick and oily layer of what appears to be oil around the mounting ring. Something just seems amiss here. But hey, i still trust MS :)

If it helps, the layer of oil is normal on all cams. =)

Anyways i thought boxes carried serial numbers which matched its contents? How can you get them swapped? Im really puzzled how boxes can even end up in such a state when your purchasing them brand new. :(

Hmm really? Whats it for anyways? The layer applied on my copy was really chunky and sloppy. Kinda has the consistency of chunky peanut butter? ;p A real mess.
