Need better understanding on these few note:

-Abstract
-Nature ( does it include cityscape,sunrise/set, fireworks?)
-Still Life

Cityscape is either landscapes or architecture from my perspective.

Still life is anything that is still (non-moving). Food can also consider still I think. Haha! :bsmilie:

Abstract: Some people take it as "abstract art", in terms of photography..
Nature: Some people take animals as Nature, some take flora and fauna as nature. Depends on how you interpret it..
Still Life: Something that have "no life". (i.e.water bottle, handphone, keys etc.)

Cityscape are man made object...only in large scale. Pyramid, Greatwall, Pathenon also.
Still life are basically subject or object that has got no life, but the artist / photographer use careful arrangement, lighting and composition to make them looks good, but sometimes flowers and fish etc also used in still life painting /photography.

nature - no, no cityscapes, should have limited man-made presence, i.e. the shot can have them but they cannot be too dominant. fireworks are definitely not nature as well. sunrise/sunset, it depends. if you show a sunset with a HDB silhouette, how natural is that?

i like naturescapes' way of defining it:

"images where the natural outdoor world of land, sea and sky is the primary subject. Human Elements allowed when they are not a significant part of the scene."

other than that, things like insects, birds, etc, are obviously nature. along with plants.

still life -

Still life photography is the depiction of inanimate subject matter, most typically a small grouping of objects. Still life photography, more so than other types of photography, such as landscape or portraiture, gives the photographer more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition.

-Abstract, basically is seeing usual things in an unusual way, to provoke thoughts
-Nature, anything that is living organisms or not man made
-Still Life, anything that you can arrange it and study their form, texture, shape... etc and relationship.

So this photo is abstract or still life? :bsmilie:

Abstract: Any photographic image that does not depict an object as it appears in the real world. It's a broad definition and also the correct one. This can include the use of post processing to change the way an object looks through to using perspectives and photographic techniques to bend an object in to a new shape etc.

- Nature: Any animate or inamiate object or objects that are not man made. Examples: Natural landscapes, forests, mountains, lakes, rivers, sky, sunsets, Flora and fauna (plants and animals), Fish etc.

It does not include: Any man made objects, eg cityscapes, houses, people, roads, vehicles etc.

Still Life: Properly it is the photography of inanimate objects. Though flowers which are an animate object are often used to add impact.

Still life photography involves the creation of a scene usually involving complex lighting techniques and advanced compositional techniques to "Make" a photograph. It's normal in still life photography to only use a few objects at a time to lend a sense of proportion and balance to the image and also to aid in focusing the viewers mind on the subject.
