Hi I am a newbie in photography. Used to own a Canon SLR and 2 original Canon lens. However, now thinking of getting a DSLR. Pls advise if my current 2 canon lens for my SLR can be compatible for a Canon DSLR or not? I tried fitting and taking pic and had no major problems but just wondering what are some disadvantages in doing so. Should I save some money by sticking to Canon with my old SLR lens or buy DSLR body (other brands + other lens) eg.Nikon D90? Thanks for advice.

Welcome to CS! And yes, stick to Canon! Canon's DSLR can fit lenses that are used on SLRs. If you switch to other brands, then you will have two white elephants. :) btw, there arent any disadvantages. The DSLR are designed to accommodate to the old lens mount.

Canon DSLR APSC (1.6x crop) - EF and EFS mount lenses

Canon DSLR APSH & FF (1.3 & 1.0x crop) - EF mount lenses

If your lenses are old FD mount, you need an adaptor.

Since you have tried to use your old lenses in DSLR and no problem, just stick with Canon. As you have been familiar with Canon system

Welcome to CS :)
Firstly what's the 2 lens that u spoke of?
U shd try to optimize their usage and stick with Canon before u want to make a jump.. Since u already "owned" a Canon before,u shd be famaliar with their system, jumping meaning u have to start anew again.. Suggest u do readup on reviews between diff cam bodies online and have a feel of them in the shops before u make any rash decisions.. HTH

You tried fitting they worked well - what other proof do you need? :)
The EF mount (connection type between body and lens) is similar between all Canon EOS cameras, regardless whether they are film cameras or digital ones. (The older FD mount is incompatible in many ways, you wouldn't be able to mount the such a lens on any newer body.) So you can safely use all your EF lenses and mount them on film bodies and digital bodies. For more details you can read up about Canon's EF mount and EF-S mount.
There are no direct disadvantages although some people say that film lenses could cause some flare due to reflections from the sensor (which is different material then film).
I suggest you stick with Canon. Get a digital camera and swap the lenses when needed.
