Hi all, I need some help here.

I see a big spec of black dust through my viewfinder, but when i take images, the dust does not appear, thus i assume its a viewfinder dust.. how do i remove it?

Get it cleaned at the service center..

But seriously for me, if it doesnt affect my pics, i will live with it.

Sensor is different from viewfinder. You can drain the battery till it's empty with activating sensor cleaning - it will not affect viewfinder dust at all.

Dun worry. I assure you after cleaning, the dust will come back after a while. Unless you keep in the dry cabi for good :)

Which camera? so I can find the right instructions for you.

Well if it dose not affect the picture then its fine. Dust on viewfinder its very common.

From his blog looks like a K-7?

OK TS, here are the instructions on removing the focusing screen. Check if the dust is on the screen. DO NOT TOUCH THE SCREEN with bare fingers. DO NOT WIPE the screen. DO NOT scratch the screen. DO NOT USE ANY LIQUID or LENSPEN on the screen.

Just blow the screen with a blower. If the dust is not on the screen, proceed to remove the screen and blow inside, behind the screen after removal.

Enjoy.

view finder not focusing screen

view finder not focusing screen

Usually see dust in the viewfinder, dust is usually in focusing screen or in the mirror area behind the focusing screen. Or on the prism area (if pentaprism) Blow from inside will work. If not, how to get to the dust behind the VF?

Hi there, my suggestion is either you live with it or send to a service
centre. Try not to diy. My heroic friend tried to clean his E-3 viewfinder by removing the focusing screen and clean the mirror behind it. Not only did he succeeded in cleaning his viewfinder but he is also rewarded witb 2 long scratches on the mirror when he placed the focusing screen back. Now he is regretting it and should have just sent it to a service centre. I wonder how much does it cost to change the focusing screen and the mirror behind it. Must have cost a bomb!

Focusing screen is cheap, cost around 50-60 for most models, even if replaced in CSC or NSC or whatever-SC. Mirror is also not hard to replace, if you know how to do it.

Focusing screen is supposed to be a user replaceable part. It is quite basic knowledge for photographers. What if you need to do something in the field? Send to service center in the middle of nowhere? How? I am one of those people who are totally for DIY. Should know your camera well, and be able to do the simple tasks. Know what tasks are beyond you and is better saved for a trip down the service center. Also know the proper techniques to do certain things, not "anyhow do".

And certain things is no need to do one. Like cleaning mirror or viewfinder. I usually take out focusing screen when I am switching them to split prism ones.

Ha ha.. Good for you that you know how to diy. My friend is very unfortunate though. Read about how the focusing screen can be replaced and the how to do it. He end up with a scratch on the mirror behind the focusing screen instead. Well atleast his viewfinder is clean now and the horrible scratches doesnt affect his images. :)
