Has anyone else experienced this lately?

Apart from surfing, I also had problem viewing movies from Mio TV.

Buffering is slow esp on Youtube :(

Trying to catch up with Starhub? My Starhub's been having problems like that intermittently since two-three years back; a call to service centre SOMETIMES helps ;(

Changed from starhub to singtel after using more than 5 years. I find singtel speed faster and more stable.
I believe singtel is still doing the islandwide optical networks, so most likely effect the speed

On the whole, Singtel service sucks big time. They put you on the voice machine and tell you that this system has been upgraded to serve better and ask you to listen carefully before pressing the buttons. It is just to waste your time while their inadequate customer service officers(CSO) try to cope with the workload.

I called the other day and it took me 15 mins to speak to someone. When he introduced himself and asked for my name, i asked him why wasn't my record shown since i took the trouble to punch in the numbers as per instruction. And he did not know which number i was calling from and my purpose despite me giving those details at the voice system.
So i F..ked him left right centre and told him M1,despite being number 2, does not serve customers as shabbily as Singtel. In fact, M1 has a very delightful customer service.

Singtel, if u noticed, also has the most rigid way of conducting their price plans and promotions. I understand they are accountable to shareholder, but which business doesn't? They are always the last to give promotions and when they do, they are not as aggressive as M1 or Starhub.

Seriously, i am so pissed with them i would never have a singtel line if i have a choice(when there are other providers). Bought my iphone from them July2009 and maintained my M1 line of 6yrs. Had the intention to terminate my M1 contract when it expires in Feb2010. But because i experienced such awful service i decided to pay the penalty of early termination and cancelled my Singtel line instead. Cost me $800 plus to terminate but i am happy i did.

Part of this is the excellent follow up from M1 that encouraged me to continue with M1. Because i called M1 to asked about their early termination fees for my M1 number in July before i bought my iphone from Singtel. The CSO from M1 told me the fees and i said ok. To my delight, another senior CSO called me after 2 weeks to find out more about my request and why my decision to switch. Helps that they have employed really polite and pleasant CSO. See this excellent customer service? It is worthy of mention that M1 answerring system is easy and clean and they HAVE your details when any CSO gets to you on the line. And they take ,on average, lesser than 5 mins to attend to a caller.

From all post it looks like SingNet BB does have some problem but maybe around for a long time....

It's most frustrating when I trade online. Many times the system just came to a halt and you never know how long it takes to execute the instruction.

Last night tried to download the windows vista sp2 and system says it will take almost 5 hours based on the low speed. Gave up at the end.

i thought it was only me...

i was using 3mb plan last time and it was ok. after upgraded to 6mb plan, omg!! it was so sloooowwwwwwww.

Try changing DNS server..SingNet BB's default DNS server seemed to go a little weird these days.

Can try Google Public DNS server (8.8.8.8) :)
Works for me everytime.

i used speedtest.net and my speed is good.

i agree with you on this... singtel's service seems really bad recently, long waiting time for me to call them, average around 15mins.

another thing i realised lately is that the white mio box sucks big time... my internet always hang and lagged...

My experience with StarHub Maxonline wasn't too good either. When i was using Singtel's ADSL 3mbps plan (i live in tamp hdb estate), i could get consistent download and upload speed.

When my plan is up i decided to change to Starhub then 8mbps plan, however i regretted my decision for 2 years! During peak hrs, my 8mbps behaved as if it's a dial up 56kbps plan. And when i buffer youtube, always hang and the buffering is never fast enough. I didnt encounter such a prob with my slower SNBB back then.

I ta han with it for 2 years and when plan was up, i terminated the contract. Changed back to singnet broadband with 8mpbs plan, WooHoo, my fast buffering of youtube vids and consistent download speed during peak hrs was back! Things changed when they introduced mio plan and i sign up, using their white 2wire mio box!

Wireless signals drop drastically (previously on ethernet modem + dlink router), and i always get "connection timed out" on my lappy. speedtest on wireless devices sucks too, imagine you get 1mpbs download for a 8mbps plan? what's worse is that when i watch HD5 on mio tv, my internet bandwidth seems to be compromised further.

Conclusion: singnet broadband still provides consistent upload/download speed, way better than starhub's during peak hours (IMO). however it's advisable to sign their broadband plan only, with a standard issue ethernet modem and set up a 3rd party reputable router on your own to get decent wireless and wired connection.

me on the 10MB plan and it still fails to view youtube smoothly (it just stops!).

another funny thing I noticed was that, sometimes I sit right in front fo the box with my PC and PC indicates low signal (just one out of 5 bars). How can this be? I am < 1m from the router.

I'm also having problems with wireless connection with the 2wire modem. But too lazy to troubleshoot.

my 8mbps MaxOnline feels like 56kbps... damn dulan

can't wait for the next 18 months to go by...

i am on SNBB.
i feel the original modem sucks big time.

I use an ASUS modem.
No issues with youtube buffering.

it is smooth all the way

Try playing online game using Singnet BB then this popped up "Reconnecting in XX.X seconds" which happens every 5 - 10 mins...

I'm on Singnet MioTv plan, its the Mio, not the BB. Found out more about this issue on other forums...Their solutions? Don't sign up MioTv, apparently when u "convert" to MioTv, your connection gets routed somewhere different from the standard singnet BB.

i subscribe to Mio Home, which is BB + voice+ free Mio TV (a few movies per month) .
so you mean this free Mio TV movie thing makes them reroute my BB than standard SNBB?
Geez I'd rather not have the mio tv . the movies are so old anyway.

No complaints from me. ;p

This is a recent problem plaguing users overseas as well, probably an ongoing issue with the servers at the side of youtube. ;)

i guess your mileage varies. my starhub premium regularly hits 20-28mbps which is the limit for the modem i am using.

yup...singtel service sucks and i don't foresee that changing in the near future. i'm free of singtel at the moment!
