I used to have that clickety clacky keyboard. Now it's probably somewhere at Sungei Road

That looks like my very first computer. Was a hand-me-down from my aunt. A 286 machine. :bsmilie:

LOL that reminds me my 8088 computer. super good screen called EGA, 16 colours!
No HD, use double floppy and use DR DOS liao.

Used to have one of this many many moons ago. Recall my 1st harddisk was a Seagate, MFM type, 5 1/4 in, 40Mb and cost almost $800.

Throw everything inside... Lotus 123, WordPerfect, Dbase 3, Harvard Graphics, Window 3.0, games etc and never managed to get if half filled.

Now... bought a 64gb Ipod Touch less then a month and it's almost full.

Wow... 4.77MHz. Those were the days.

I actually had a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I. With tape recorder.

u guys all veri advance.
first computer i had was DIY with a single line display of LED. :>

then follow by a sinclair zx81 with 2k RAM.

then a more decent tendy radio shack 80.

cubic 88 by creative(the talking computer).

all these are lame by today's standard,
but boy, were they fun to hv.

fun got lost after using a PC compatable, the Sirius(8088).
use more apps than self program.

thanks for the thread, Rafael.
brings tears to my eyes even as i m keying.

Sent mine to the tip a couple of years ago, along with my original IBM 4.77Mhz, though I did keep the original 10mb Hard Disk (double height 5.25") for nostalga's sake.

First computer in 1974, an analogue 128 byte octal machine with Nixie tube output designed by a friend of my father. Followed by an Altair I and II and Then a Commodore PET 2001 in 1978 (with 8KB RAM) then the original IBM 5150 PC in 81 and later fitted with a 5161 Expansion unit and 10 MB HDD. AT 6Mhz with zero wait state RAM and Weitek with 20 Meg HD in 1985.

2 to 3 decades down the road, these "ancient and primitive" microprocessors by current standards are still the "brains" behind all the modern, state of the art flying machines. ;p

DOS is probably the best operating system microsoft ever introduced. :bsmilie:

introduced, yes.
invent. dunno?

not sure, but u guys know if MS is just an evolution of CPM?
its so similar, down right to the stupid error code.

That news is nearly 30 years out of date. Bill Gates cobbled DOS together from Q-DOS, Xenix (the largest UNIX varient at the time) and made it resemble DR-Dos's CP/M and then got a rare non sole supplier contract with IBM for DOS.

Probably the right word to use is "marketed"

Sim Wong Hoo did not invent the sound card, but he certainly was the most successful marketing person when he formed Creative.
Bill Gates did not invent the operating system for PC, but he certainly was the most successful marketing person when he formed Microsoft.
Apple did not invent the mp3 player, but they certainly did well with the iMac and iPod based on how they marketed their products.

My boss bought this computer...mono.. 20m harddisk.. Guess the cost..

1. $5000
2. $8000
3. $12000

Dot Matrix printer.. 9dpi

1. $500
2. $1000
3. $2000
