AF calibration at Canon service centre too expensive!

I have focusing issue for my Canon 50mm f1.8 lens and CSC said the cost of calibration is $60. I have not made the decision to calibrate it as it's about half of the lens price. Any alternative?
I regretted not having the warranty extended :cry:

yes. i just sent mine free of charge under warranty and it just takes 8 hours for them to finish the job.

If a CS part time, weekend guy can charge $60 an hr for event or birthday photography. What is $60 for this job by CSC which another member mentioned it takes 8hrs.

CSC technicians are trained and full time professional. With proper facilities and frontline support etc. The thread title is certainly very misleading

I am not quite sure on the part that it takes 8 hours to calibrate a lens. I sent one in the other day on a late afternoon and received a SMS the next day in the late morning that it is ready for collection.

Totally agree with you on this. If TS feel that it is not justified, can go buy another copy new or old instead of calibrating...

I am not familiar with Canon lens and price. But ..

I think it is a matter of whether is it worth it or not - rather the accusing the Service Centre for being expensive. Labour charge is generally quite standard with a minimum rate regardless of whether the item is cheap or expensive or even brand. In this case I would think it is quite minimum already.

And for the TS case getting a new one could be a better option.

considering the price of a L lens, $60 to recalibrate so you can get sharp pictures is cheaper :thumbsup:

My guess is at least 30% of the people who sell their lens in the forum is due to them not so happy with their lenses focus.
