Hi, i was wondering if it is advisable to travel to Taipei during the CNY period, say from the 14th (1st day) till the 21st? Any idea if most of the shops would be closed and the sightseeing areas as well? Thanks!

Any recommended must go places?

Must see places depending on how your trip is like. If you're confined to the cities as you're visiting families there, the places you can visit is pretty limited by where u are.

If not some of the places you can visit will be south of taiwan like kenting and taroko gorge.

thanks, i'm mostly going there to sightsee and shop around. Would not be visiting anyone. However, i am worried that the shops might be closed for CNY. Hence was wondering if anyone here has gone to taiwan during this period b4 and would be able to provide some insights to my worry.

it is not a good time to visit Taipei during CNY, the streets in night markets and shopping centres are so packed till you cannot even enter nor move.. cannot buy anything becos you cannot even walk in... long queues everywhere... fast food and other food outlets mostly all full house.. transportation is madness with traffic jams ! prices will increase due to CNY !

the shops in downtown Taipei will be opened to make money thru CNY.. except to close for a few hours for reunion dinner.

think twice before u decide on it

oh no, my trip has been booked! looks like i just have to pray for the best now... Thanks for the advice anyway!

Of course the good thing is you'll experience what's it's like during CNY in a all Chinese country. New experience and new photo opportunity. Take some nice pix and share it bro!!

hahaha.. oh yes, look on the bright side of things! i'll definitely get some nice photos to share! Cheers!

the good thing is u will feel the vibrant mood at everywhere... if food is an issue due to crowds, try 7-11s or Family Mart, their 7-11s are so much better than sgp ones, u can eat a full meal at very reasonable prices.

;)

that's pretty interesting. A full meal at 7-11. I'll have to give it a try when i'm there. I would probably be eating things like pau or dim sums?

You will be eating:
阿宗Or Ah 面线
老天禄鸭颈项
青蛙泡炮茶
... and all these, provided you are successful in your queue. :bsmilie:

oh.. they have such things in 7-11s, their convenient stores are very different from SGP... customer service level is also much better.

the ah chung mian xian is a must...

its damn gd la !

limwhow: I do hope i will be successful with the queue or there will be 6 hungry people deprived of mouthwatering food in Taiwan. Haha! :)

raincool2005: So the 7-11s there are somewhat similar to those in HK where they do sell food and midnight snacks? Some 7-11s in Sg do sell food as well, although the variety isn't that great.

kultchris: ah chung mian xian? sorry, is that like a shop or? if it is a shop, would u by any chance have the address? hahahA! :D

The best thing to buy from their 7-11s is their beef instant noodles. Its called 一度赞. It has various flavours and is priced at NT48 (~S$2+). Its good cause it contains a packet of beef cubes in stock! Its not those dried up type... You can try the other lower priced brands at your own risk (tried before and wasn't too pleased when compared with 一度赞.

Its a shop where the queue is at least 10 ppl long and you have to stand to eat. Its situated at Ximending (walking distance from the mrt). Check this LINK for more details. Man...i really missed that mian xian loads...

Until I've edited my photos from my recent taiwan trip. I can even show you the famous mian xian itself...haha!

sorry bro i dun have the address.

but its located along ximending .

I have not stopped thinking abt it since 2 yrs back.

o man..

now i feel like eating it ! hahaha

tkbonz: Thanks for the advice will definitely try both recommendations while i'm there~!

kultchris: Wah, you all say until like the mian xian is damn damn nice la... i think confirm must eat. If dun try sure regret!

I am travelin to taipei between 4 feb to 10 feb. will there be any problem since it is before Chinese new year?

any recommendation for lodging? I'm trying to find a reasonable one (cheap and good actually). Food i guess shouldn't be any problem right.

and not forgetting that 7-11 is ALL OVER taiwan!haha we even commented that you see more 7-11 than dustbins.

when you buy cup soup from them, they will help you to put in microwave and prepare, much better than sg :)

At least every two street you'll see a convenience shop. My recent trip allowed 5 different hotels stay and for each hotel, a convenience store is only either 1 street away or on the same street as the hotel!!!
