Wanna get a pool cue for bf's birthday... Any suggestion?? Brand or where to get?

Thanks!

budget?

I'd recommend any Lucasi for a beginning hobbyist.. and the $300 range of cues from lucasi actually hit pretty well.. and as the time comes to upgrade, many choose to just upgrade the shaft and the lucasi uni-loc joint is one of the friendliest i've come to use.

Then again, if investing in a cue, i suggest your bf actually tries one to match. By default, we usually play on a 19 oz cue.. but some like it a tag lighter 18 / 18.5

If it's a surprise.. then i suppose going with a 19oz is a good choice.

:) Enjoy playing!

$50 to $2000 is the price range.......... and expensive dont mean better (just that its hand made or hand finished + fancy handle designwork etc )

dont do it on your own, bring him along to choose something he likes personally ........ many have personal preferences on the type of cue they like to play with esp weight, balance and materials

I might just add, that if 300 is the budget, then it's good to take into account the investment of a reasonable cue case, joint protectors. might be able to get the sellers to throw it in with the purchase.. :)

Balabushka - waiiieeeeeee!!!!!

OOPS! Just saw budget ... my bad.

As others have suggested, best is let him choose himself because it's an extremely personal thing, or get him a gift voucher instead.

Found this. Dunno good or not. http://www.billiard-cue-site.com/

Also remember one supplier that had a large store at Riverwalk 2nd or 3rd floor. They also supplied tables to pubs and stuff, so they were quite big I think.

And http://www.yellowpages.com.sg/newiy...ccessType=9&searchCriteria=pool and billiards

I'm sure the other pool and billiards experts here can offer more help.

hi TS,
with your budget, i suggest cues from taiwan. they pretty decently made for tht price.

i've one from this brand "triangle DC" and it has been serving me well.

has your bf been playing pool for quite some time?

if he has then it wld be better tht he tries the cue himself 1st b4 purchasing as by now he shld be able to use the correct stroke and grip to hit and thus he'll know the weight tht feels right for him, whether it's forward or back weighted and also the "feel" of the impact (diff wood got diff feel).

last time, i didn't know the correct way to play and i bought my cue, at 1st i like it cause it was heavy but soon aft i've learned properly the cue really feels like a ton

Still prefer ejun predator :D. If budget isn't a problem.

Wah pool! Reminds me that it has been months since i last played snooker and prob years for pool. :bsmilie:

I think Fury is not too bad, cheap but decent and if ur bf dun like it, easier for him to sell. A pool cue is quite personal, so its better to get his opinion. A cheap hard case for 1 cue is about $30.

My birthday also coming, can i be ur bf too?! :bsmilie:

Woah... Thanks for all the response but now I am even more confused! Lol..

My bf is not a pro and he oftens play with his colleagues at some pool place, of cos.. using their cue so I guess he's not that fussy about the brand and type afterall? He once mentioned that it will be nice to have his own so I thot of getting him one for his birthday early Feb. I ran out of other gift ideas!

So, for someone who probably needs a basic cue (ok, slightly better ones)... Which is my best bet? I will def get a case too :)

Thanks everyone!

got cue doesn't mean pro lah, it's like got DSLR doesn't mean pro mah :D

it's the love of the game tht counts.

go for a taiwan cue, tht's your best bet for value for money cues.

accessories to go with it will be cue case, cue cleaning kit, joint protectors and if you don't mind spending a bit more, a layered leather cue tip

Are you sure he wants a new cue? Cue is rather personal. Will he be giving up this hobby anytime soon due to job/family commitment..?
Maybe ask him what he wants is best. Buying the wrong gift may just become a display piece or a spare.
