have anyone considered looking forward in CS rather than just forum.. maybe we can publish our own magazine each month?

there are so many talented people here in CS so far i dont think i have seen topic about this.. pardon me if i am wrong.. so many good photographers that we can preview each month... and so many talented people who can do some editor works and reports.

what do you think?

hard copy cannot survive in Singapore....the killer blow is the cost.

start with online version. enough advert space for hardcopy and subscription can survive. It's the content that is important. Locally, we have crappy ones now...

well imho.. i think CS members are laking guts lah... let think of it. how many members that we have? a lot leh.. in the philippines there is one forum community called DPP... digital photographers philippines.. few members only but the magazine every month have..

It would be great to have a clubsnap magazine, online or print, but there is so much work to do just to get an issue out.
There has to be enough stories, with strong visuals.
There has to be an editor to edit the stories, photos etc.
There has to be a designer to layout the pages.
There has to be a marketing communications person to deal with getting/managing ads, PR and etc.

If only mediacorp, straits times could look into setting up a photography magazine unit. . .
I'm sure the demand will be there.
Now who's burning with the entrepreneur spirit?
:)

count me in.. i have some editorial experiences in publishing plus i have a very good sources when it comes to magazines and book writing that can help me out.

we just need at least 5 dedicated people to do the works and additional 5 more for the content and at least 2 editors. we can start by releasing just maybe 30-40 pages at first.

lets just put aside business minds first... then when the demand is good then maybe we can talk about business for the benefit of CS.

yah lah.. look at the big picture.. i have a friend in PH doing some airsoft stuff only 500 members.. every month got magazine and so many people buying it nationwide considering how big PH? the magazine is not really that high end compared to FHM.. they started the layout in a carfinder style magazine.. just the cheap cheap one but good.

first release of the mag you will clearly see the future of the mag in 2-3 years time.. depending how many peeps buy. i think it will be bought especially if you have classified adds.

can't wait for the first issue...sure become collector's item. wonder whose photo going to be on the first cover.......

In the United States.. any group that arrives in a certain level has its own magazine. They have working mother magazine, black entrepreneur magazine, hispanic business magazine...
in fact.. any activity engage in by more than 4 people in the US.. has its own f**king magazine devoted to it.

sky diving, snow mobiling, back packing, moutain climbing, bungee jumping, skeet shooting,
duck hunting, jerking off, playing pools, shooting someone in the As* h*** with a dart gun... they probably got a magazine for that... imagine they even have a magazine called "WALKING"

Startup costs would be significant but classefied advertising and premium advertising space could help soften the blow a little.

The editorial/technical/advertising staff may be doing this for glory (to begin) but the risk/reward would be worth it. Something local, of high quality, which is not tied to a single brand would be popular, and unless production runs are high they would be sought after I think.

Most photo mags have 10-20+ full pages of advertising. I guess this is needed to keep cover prices attractive?

yes most of it... the finances for this kind of biz is not really that huge as some may think. its not even scary.

you just get some sponsorship from camera shops, alan photo, john 3:16.. so many to mention.
they post an add of a certain size and maybe some of their promotions..

advertisement is powerful some people don't just realized.. we need to take a look at the big picture for CS not just everyday posting, sending pm or browsing pics leh... we are more than this.. i think we are more than ready to be in the mainstream.

everything is a step by step process. once you reached the edge of a flat form then you need to step up to a higher level as quickly as possible otherwise you stay long in that same flat form and you will just fade until you will be forgotten.

Even Secondary School Kids have their magazines.

Seriously, I'd suggest some cosmetic surgery on our website outlook before venturing into any magazine business.

Just compare this http://www.xitek.comhttp://www.xitek.com/ with our "what the duck" cartoonish front-page, long way to go.
I'm not trying to discourage you guys, but it is a good idea to practice on the outlook of our website before actually pouring money into something risky.

Singapore always touts itself as a regional hub and strives to be a global one where east meets west, shouldn't the online communities be as ambitious too? How about some quality formal equipments review to establish some authority? Our review tab on the front page is still empty. Since this is where east meets west, I'd suggest some collaboration with chinese or japanese forums and translate their quality equipments reviews into english, a form of outsourcing for lack of resources. Just some of my wild thoughts.

i see i didn't know they are not releasing every month.. anyways..

everything starts in knowing how.. then u apply.. then you improve and improve and improve. thats the step by step i'm talking about. it's always a risk.. every business is risk. the only business that i know which is not included in the risk is the catholic chruch :bsmilie:

knowing that there is a risk is what makes it exciting. somehow you always feel that there is something big waiting to happen just sitting around the corner.

This is the force that drives most of the big company founders go to the office everyday and work... because somehow they knew that one day they will going make a big difference.

everything starts with guts. NO GUTS.. NO GLORY..
