Hi CSers,

Where can i find the review on the shops in HK.

Thanks

In ClubSnap

Just do a search and read up.

Consumers Corner. Look there please.

find a spoon, feed yourself.

Try visiting this website, www.ygdragon.net, it gives the name of the shops and the pricelist in HK. I live near Hong Kong and have bought 2 lenses there and must admit that it is a nightmare buying cameras or lenses in HK. Avoid shops along Nathan Road and Tsim Sha Tsui area like the plague.

Cheers

Chris

I am complying a list of shops in Hong Kong and hopefully can share it with everyone in a month or so (around Chinese New Year) as I will have some free time to work on it and do research.

Wing Shing Photo Supplies Co., 55-57 Sai Yeung Choi St., Mong Kok is my favorite shop in HK.. excellent customer service I'd experienced. years back i bought EOS 30D, i found a dead pixel in the LCD screen only 3 days later. came back to the store on the 4th day and got a one to one replacement to a new set in 5 min. no hussle/problem replacing it and the guy is very friendly.

Whoa, thks a mil CS Tan,
i heading bk to HK in 2 mths time to visit relatives but hv no prior experience in buying any lens there before because previously the rate nt so favorable.

But looking to get some stuff this time round..

Got my Tokina 11-16/2.8 from one of the Fortress chain outlets. Good service and let me test the lens for more than 15mins even before I confirm the purchase. Mongkok has the whole stretch of shops for you to go and ask prices. Take your time as sometimes prices are different even if they are chain outlets as my purchase is a fine example. The first fortress outlet at Mongkok quote me a price almost 5% above the other fortress outlet where I bought the lens. The best part was at this shop along Nathan Road called China Electronics or likewise, tried to sell me at a price higher than SG. My first and only answer to him was, "Bro too steep, your price is 12% higher than the rest...", and he even has the cheek to answer me "No choice, now high demand so prices soar, order now and wait for 2 weeks or leave it". My gf & I looked at each other, shook our heads and walked out.

Just bear one thing in mind. Buying lenses in MongKok is likewise to buying in Sim Lim Square. Ask first for their prices as some will chop your carrot head.

Ok. I will put it in the consumer sub-forum when I am done.

As for getting around places such as Mongkok in Hong Kong, there is no easy way. For me, if I don't know the place, I will call the shop and ask them which MTR station exit should I take. Once I have that information, it will be a lot easier to find the place. It will become quite hopeless if I get out from a wrong exit. It might take me forever to find the place on the ground. Normally, if that happened, I will go back down to the MTR station and try to find the right exit and go from there.

Great work CS TAN
I have some experience in some shops on HK island (just walk pass and ask price, not really experience though), those old shops. Maybe able to contribute some info if you needed :)

I've also tried once their online shop, and collect the item COD. Went all the way down to Qing Shan Dao (very near to Lai Chi Kok).

I couldn't remember the actual shopname but that shop is at Tung Choi street (2 streets away from Sai Yueng Choi street) if I remember correct along the main Nathan Road. Very prominent shop as it has those multicolored LED board which I think stated China Electronics.

kudos to CS TAN.. the list that you have provided is very comprehensive!

like what others have mentioned, just do your homework before u go down.. it's very important that you know what is the item you are buying and how much you are paying for..

I worked out previously. It's probably more worth it buying in HK when the exchange rate is 1 SGD: > 5.3 HKD.
