anyone using slik tripod?

...yep. got one; but diff model. bought slik pro 330ez awhile back from cp too. very sturdy, good functional head; but abit heavy..... i suppose it's good for local use and not on travelling.

i just needed some feedbacks on this brand as i saw its selling at below 100.
ya is quite heavy but i dun mind as long as its stable
I use a SLIK PRO 330DX & change the pan head to SLIKSBH-120DQ ballhead. Its not heavy, I lugged it almost anywhere I go even when I travel. Setting up is fast. Can't remember how much already
haha... the one i am getting(Slik 740) should be the cheapest one from what i saw displayed there. oops.
the stand is metal but the joint areas are made of plastic. but should be ok rite

some tips to look out for when getting a tripod....
...check out the weight it is able to support. ie. total wt of camera, lens, flash....must be below the tripod's supportable wt.
...plastic threading at head/stand joints is ok; but be vary of faster wearing off of the threads if tripod is used frequently and the head may become loose.
advisable to pay abit more for a metal head joints... for peace of mind when yr cam is mounted on it.
sturdy tripod don't topple so easily, accidentally or not...and besides, can withstand stronger outdoor winds.
note: have you considered giving a thought on getting a mono-pod? cheaper, sturdy and convenient....

i dunno is it correct. does sturdy tripods mean having a considerable weight? or is it the tripod suppose to "split" wider so as to stablise the center of gravity
Monopod is it the one with only 1 stick attached to the camera bottom? i dun think i will get that cos it cant stand by its own.. and not as stable right(shakey from left to right)?
correct me if i am wrong...
EDIT** i saw benro's monopod on youtube, there another mini tripod thing extended at the bottom of the stick.. but is it stable when windy?

i m using slik sprint pro, the older version thats w/o the sponge on the leg. using it for my compact cameras. very happy with it, but not the ball head, sbh100. changed it to giottos mh-1303 series.

...sturdy tripod generally refers to one that can support a much heavier weight and its construction is bulkier, hence it weighs more. as to a wider base, it is about the same as any other light-weight tripods. however, a heavy-duty tripod can have its legs further extended to a wider base for downward shooting of documents without camera toppling over.
most important thing for a tripod is the head and its attachment to the tri-legs. that's the weakest point in a tripod.
as a guide, abt $200.00 is enough for a reasonably good tripod, a sturdy one!!!

i suggest you up your budget and get minimum slik sprint pro. i do not trust any tripod with that centrepiece thing actually..
btw from experience slik sprint pro will not last long if you use it properly, i.e. go into sea, use it frequently.
for something that can take abuse, with rather reasonable price that will not explode your wallet.. you can try manfrotto 725b.

basically followed a mantra which i adapted based on my findings,
good and light is expensive but easy to find.
cheap and light is not recommended but is everywhere.
good and cheap will not be light but almost impossible to find.
The Slik U212 falls under the third option. Since you are going Cathay Photo, might as well take a look at it just take note its an old school Made in Japan tripod.
dittos for the slik sprint pro (II). I'm using it with the RRS BH-25 ballhead.
Very light and convenient for travel.
