What Do You Keep in Your Dry Cabinet?

Hi,

For those of you who own a dry cabinet...

1.) What is the humidity that you set for your dry cabinet?

2.) What do you keep in your dry cabinet besides the camera body and lens?

3.) Do you keep these in the dry cabinet? UV Filters and polarisers, camera strap, external flash unit, memory cards, card reader, batteries, battery charger, lens cleaning kit... ...

It should be ok to leave the strap with the camera and store it into the dry cabinet right?

sorry for sounding harsh photobug but there is a difference between being a newbie and having commonsense by the questions you ask!! you are wondering whether you should keep a strap and memory card in a dry cabinet?

For me i keep everything electronic and glass into the cabinets. There is no harm keeping batteries in dry cabinet. Whether your AA battery for flash or Li-Lion for camera. It is easier to manage all your gears with 1 or 2 separate places.

I do remove my camera battery but only when i go for high humid places for shoot. For that reason it is advisable to open up all door for it to remove the moisture. (remove card and battery and leave door open). I do leave my lens with my camera.

For removing card, unless i am uploading the photos or the reason mention above i do not remove the card. If i do i will keep the door open so as to remind me that card need to be inserted.

For straps, I do remove it before placing it in. Do remember that your straps will absorb sweat whether your neck or palm but unless you have a buckle straps like Optech or some other brands else you will have lots of trouble removing a come with straps. So my advise, if you use come with straps, just leave it with the cam and put it in the cabinet. If you invest on a straps get one with buckle and remove the straps (the padding area).

Batteries are not sensitive towards humidity, it makes no difference whether you remove them or not. But when storing the camera for longer periods people tend to forget to charge the batteries. Keeping them separately is just a reminder for charging them. Still you can keep them inside the cabinet, more tidy.
The same goes for rechargeable batteries for flash. If you use Alkaline batteries for flash then it goes without saying that one should not leave them inside. They tend to leak, especially cheap China brands.

A cheap china battery will not last for flash LOL, even a GP battery cant make it too. I only believe never say die and bunny battery and they both are Guaranteed by their respective manufacturer.

if ur dry cabi is big enough...sure dump it in, but have to be realistic....it's not advisable to put things like ur camera strap which is damp with ur sweat after a whole day shooting...

oh (thanks). I didn't think about that. Will remove the strap once I bring my new cam out. Haven't had the chance to yet. Now I just dump the whole camera in .. strap, lens and batt. lol.

3.) Do you keep these in the dry cabinet? UV Filters and polarisers, camera strap, external flash unit, memory cards, card reader, batteries, battery charger, lens cleaning kit... ...
some mentioned above, memory card is in the body,
charger no.
lens cleaning kit stays in the bag.

In answer to photobug22 questions:
(a) Humidity set to 45% to 55%
(b) Camera, Lens, Flash, UV Filters, Polarisers, Camcorder, Tapes and Discs
(c) Never keep batteries (disposables or rechargeables) in a dry cabinet cos the chemicals will dry out faster in low humidity and the life span will be shortened. The other reason is the batteries will definitely leak and you don't want the acids to corrode the contacts.

Camera bags and handstraps should be wasked with every outing. It's not only hygenic practice but will also ensure that you will minimise chances of dirt and fungus taking root on your precious.

Lastly, "Pokemon" don't be too harsh with "Photobug22" for asking. It is a typical question that has been asked a thousand times in this forum and also answered just as often. Someone else will ask again and somebody will answer them. We will continue to spoonfeed them if we feel so inclined to do so.

And if I don't plan to use the lens for a long time, I even remove the caps an filters from the lens.
