Many of the car accidents due to young and reckless driver these days is very common :

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/cna/20091225/tap-939-20-year-old-man-involved-car-cha-231650b.html

He and the car owner should deserve a severe penalty or jail term to deter other potential reckless driver on the road before any innocent road user from any mishap.

Such dangerous driving is worst than drink driving.:nono:

this country got more & more... young & dangerous chap
end of the day... pay fine &...

I noticed that many accidents happen because the drivers want to take a chance, especially at junctions and around corners that they cannot see. I'm not sure whether they are really taking a gamble that around that corner nobody will be there, or they just blindly assume the coast would be clear, and just charge through these corners at speed.

But in this particular case, I hope this person gets charged to the full extent of the law. No license still want to do high speed chase in Sg, and cause injury to TP officer summore. And even if he evades them, how far does he think he can run?

Our roads are crowded enough, and we certainly don't need this kind of irresponsible a**hole drivers coming in to endager other peoples' lives. :thumbsd:

Yeah, well you export the little Burgers down here to Perth as university students. The number of Singaporean kids here who have highly worked over ricers (local expression for Japanese boy racer cars like Evo's, WRX, GTR's etc) is staggering. Some of the kids have budgets of 150K AUD for a car when they whinge to mummy and daddy that they need a car to get around in Perth because the MT is so bad. 150K in Australia buys you a WRX with 80K left over for hotting it up and that goes a long long way.

The sad part is 99.99% of these kids can't drive to save their lives. A couple of years back one of the local motorsports clubs had 20 of them show up for a race day with their super ricers and not one of the kids was able to post a decent time around a race-track, even after quite a few practice laps and race laps... I rest my case.

many like dis ,,, maybe they should try PSP games or Xbox ...really an *******

I think this is just a tip of the iceberg. There should be many more around.

Also hardly see any TP around these days. IMO, TP should step up their patrol. More and more reckless drivers nowadays.

Even vans/lorries/pick-ups drive on outer lanes on highways like nobody's business nowadays, and hogging the road some more. Last time where got like this? I was driving a company van about 15 years ago. Only on the inner most lane on highways, unless want to overtake.

Well if they kill themselves and hurt no one else, then they will benefit others. We need their organs for people who are in need.

Corneas, kidneys and more. At least they will return something to society.

"Under Section 64 of the Road Traffic Act, any motorist who drives a vehicle dangerously on the roads and are first time offenders can be fined up to S$3,000 or imprisonment up to 12 months, or both.

Driving without a valid licence is also an offence under Section 35 of the Road Traffic Act. If convicted, first time offenders are liable to a fine not exceeding S$1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months."

They should increase the sentences - it's too light!

i dont get it, why the penalty for driving w/o valid licence is lighter than dangerous driving?:dunno::dunno::confused:

whats ur opinion?

(1) driving dangerously - you have put someone's life at risk.

(2) driving without valid licence - you are not supposed to be behind the wheel. whether you have endangered lives that comes under (1)

it is the first time offender part that bugs me. some people might just keep trying their luck until they get caught with the mentality "i am a first time offender - it's just a fine or 3-12 months jail."

3 months jail only, man that is so light should be increase to 6 months and above.
plus hurting a officer in the process...he's not going to get away with it so easily...
a little squatting time in the prison might change his life completely.

a lifetime ban from driving would be good as well.

:bsmilie: cruel but true what if the parents don't agree to donate the organs ?

Unless they disagreed and signed a document to disallow organ harvesting, the HOTA act comes into play.

Your nuts belong to the state...

I was curious about the part that said he swerved his car suddenly and caused the TP to crash -- if that was a deliberate act, he should be charged with far more than just dangerous driving. I'd interpret it as assault, in the very least.

but u see, knowingly that one is not qualified to drive (2), but yet choose to go behind the wheels, shouldnt the penalty be more serious than (1)? it can be said that logically, it will automatically put all other road user's life at big risk which is already as serious as (1).

Fines and jail are useless for this kind of reckless people.

Just ban them from driving for life.

As demonstrated in Australia and elsewhere bans on driving simply don't work. Fine the barstewards a few hundred thousand bucks so they carry a burden for life .. that may well work.
