Pictures during bright sunlight

Heya folks, i just got my 500d on tuesday and have been taking some night and evening shots
at east coast and pasir ris. I decided to try to take some morning shots so, i went to changi beach.

It was prob around 9-10+ and when i took the photos and then discovered that they appear extreemly too white. Thats when i take it under sunlight.

When i stand in the shade and take it, its fine.

I have tried to mess arnd with the ISO, appeture but the results kinda came out abt the same.

Would there be any way to take the photo while standing in the sunlight without having it being too white.

I could upload the pic later for view though..

have you 'mess arnd' with the WB (white balance)? what mode did you use?

is it because your len without len hood

yeah, lens is without the hood..
didnt mess with the white balance *woops*

They are too white probably because your camera got tricked into using an incorrect exposure. Hold down the exposure button, and rotate the dials to decrease to like -1eV etc to control the exposure.

I most shoot landscape photo with strong sunlight using these settings: aperture f/8-11 and shutter speed 1/125-500, ISO 200.
The results should be fine.

Why dun you try shooting with the sun behind your back instead of blindly applying some arbitrary setting given by somebody.

well, during that day when i went out, i did not have the luxury of having the sun behind me all the time. And of course i wont just use the settings given blindly...

well, i was suggested to check the white balance too... which i did not check it out cause still getting used to my <1wk old 500d

Start off with Auto Mode.

If picture turns out too bright use the exposure compensation to reduce exposure e.g. EV -0.3, -0.7 or -1

If picture turns out too dark use the exposure compensation to increase exposure e.g. EV +0.3, +0.7 or +1

Once you are good at that, you can try the Program Mode.
