I recently found out that cameras are a lot cheaper in Penang then in KL or in Singapore of course? Does anyone know why it would be cheaper?

I can't speak for Malaysia but I know many camera bodies and lenses are indeed cheaper in HK. I think you have to blame Canon Singapore, etc

Thank you for the correction; Penang apparently lost it's free trade status in 1970.
That why I said "Rub salt to the wound". We pay so much more in Singapore but only get 1 year warranty. :cry:but only valid in HK mah

Langkawi definitely not cheap.
Shops in Penang Road. Don't look for those in Shopping mall (example photo president)
7D and 5DII about SGD100-200 cheaper.
As for why... I also don't know. Maybe tight competition? From what I know it is really cheaper in Penang compare to certain shops in KL
From what I know, 5d2 is definately cheaper in msia compared to spore and the best price are the same at most shops.
As for Penang, I don't have knowledge they are cheaper than KL. From what I see Penang has large pool of photo enthusiast and mostly Nikon user (since film era). Canon is trying to gain some market share. So not surprise if canon have special price.
Only canon msia knows the real answer.

nikon stuffs are generally cheaper in JB.
only thing is local warranty for bodies, but u hv international warranty for lenses.

Well, I was in transit at Penang Airport, can't remember the name of the shop, but the guy assured me that it was not duty free and their branch in penang road sells the same price.. about 7000 RM plus for d5 Mark 2. That's why i was surprised. He just didnt have stock. Thanks everyone.
