Hi to all the master,

wanted to buy a dslr ,but don't which 1 is better .
pls guide me ...thks.

ep1 is not a DSLR. any DSLR will out perform ep1 due to sensor size.

They're good in their own way. Check out the reviews and decide for yourself. Go to the shop ... play with both of them and decide for yourself. Sensor size doesn't mean everything. It doesn't produce miracles. Don't get me wrong. I own both an EP1 and DSLR. I'm just stating the fact. Some of the worse photos I've seen come from DSLRs too! :D Merry Xmas.

at ep1 price point, weight and size aside, you can get much better cam with DSLR eg. Nikon D5000, EOS 500D, Sony A5x0 and much more lens choice.

if you prefer something easy to carry around then you should be looking at ep1, gf1 or even lumix lx3/canon s90.

This is a very vague word.

Cheaper can also be better.
Faster frame rate can also be better.
Lighter can also be better.
Heavier can also be better.
Larger sensor can also be better.

So what are your criteria?

That's like saying:
"I want to buy a vehicle, but I don't know whether the Toyota RAV4 or the Honda Civic is better. Please guide me."

Get the Olympus E-P1 since you have already set the size expectation. And remember to get the pancake version as that will fit into the slim size.

But you have to remember that E-P1 does not have flash. So it indoor situation where you need flash to control the color, the total size become +++.

If you are not expecting too much lens, Ricoh GXR may be worth looking at.

Since TS sounds noob, i advice u to buy EP-1 that functions like a PNS.

Buy both.
Try them out for 1 month.
Keep the one u love.
Sell the other on B&S

:)

I am a Canon 450d user, and while it is superb in many ways, its still bulky. And I am looking for a micro 4/3rds camera that has DSLR quality in a smaller package ie EP-1 or GF-1. If i had bought an EP1 first, I'm not sure if i would have ever graduated to a DSLR. I got a 450d cos there was nothing at the time with the quality i was looking for at the size i was looking for. So I opted for quality instead of size.

For me, get the EP-1. As a noob, i think getting that first is your best bet. You get video to boot! You only really need the 450d for more demanding applications like studio shoots with flash, etc. For holidays, street shooting and general use, i think the EP 1 is the way to go. 2c.

go buy the 450D. Its so cheap when you get the 18-55. esp good for noobs.

thks all,
i have seen a lots of photo from the gallery from ep1 & 450d ,both perform very good quality images .
i like the size of the ep1 but just worry in case i need to use flash for some situation (backlight) .
other than the flash no problem ......straight away go n buy ep1 already.

TS, maybe you can share more information as to your intended usage of the camera so that the ppl here can help you out.

Eg.
Want to travel light and be inconspicuous>
>> EP-1

Want less noise at high ISO
>> 450D

Got old lenses (esp. rangefinder lenses) to make use of?
>> EP-1

etc...

EP-1 is more for those seniors who had already own DSLR or better

Because in terms of pic IQ, AF focusing & the different lens u can mount,
EP-1 hardly on par w/ DSLR, imagine mounting a Zuiko ED 90-250mm F2.8 lens on a EP-1

EP-1 is more for those who want to take presentable pictures w/o bringing their whole
DSLR system out

Both have to compromise for something..

For E-P1:
It's compact and lightweight -> Pro
The image quality is not too good -> Con

For 450D:
It is bulky and not so light like the E-P1 -> Con
The image quality is much better than E-P1 due to the larger sensor -> Pro

thks for all the input ,

i think i will go for canon .
--guys....my friend's went to korea trip ,bought a canon 500D twin lens at s800 only .do u believe that ???

as long your friends knows that Canon camera is not international warranty but in some cases, i have heard that Canon SG can convert the 1 year warranty to 6mth local one just that dont know if need to pay or not.
