Love Hotel, it's a fun and exciting place to be in especially with your next half;)

it all depend on budget.

For me I stayed at a local ryokan when I was in Tokyo.

it's small and simple without 5 star luxuries but it had the warmt of the locals.

when ever i run into the twin sisters(who runs the ryokan), we will share stories of travel and other things.

the wonderful experience is nothing money can buy

i'd rather stay in a capsule hotel...

not so sleazy

technically i stay at home most of the time, but i do stay in hotels if there are guests as my apartment isn't big and it can't hold everyone

shinjuku capsule hotel is quite good. thats basically the name

check out the villa fontaine series of hotels especially if you are looking to stay in tokyo. cheaper alternative. love hotels, maybe not :D

Disney hotel if you want to fullfil your childhood fantasy
Love Hotel if you want to fullfil your adult fantasy.

For normal trip, stay at normal hotel. There are many budget and nice hotels in Tokyo (no star rating ~$80-150). For me i skip >2star hotel because of the cost (>$300). Hostel sometimes not cheaper than budget hotel. Capsule may not be as comfy as you think. Not for you if you bring big luggage and not extremely cheap too.

In shinjuku u can get a serviced apt for Yen 12,000

Try business hotels if you want value for money..

I've tried love hotel for a night, depends on the room u choose it's equipped with all kinds of entertainment.. ktv.. steam room.. wii.. etc.. and some are themed. of cse there's the normal 'hotel' rooms which are much cheaper..

Do note that it's a love hotel.. so some don't welcome you if they spot you with ur huge luggages.. in any case you can only check in late at night (after 10??) and must checkout the next morning. It's an interesting experience.. but it's not feasible if you want to stay there for more than one night.
