Im looking for sth around less than $1300.

no need too high-end type. just sth like 10 mega pix and above will do.

I saw this Panasonic FZ35 bt not sure whether its good.. or Canon is better.

If u posted in the Panasonic sub-forum isn't branding obvious? Perhaps u want to look at GF1.

From your budget, maybe u can get either Canon's 500D or Panasonic's GH1. By the way FZ35 is not a DSLR.

Personally, I strongly recommend the GF1, you will very appreciate the convenience by its size and features.

I agree. GF1's like a big LX3 with interchangeable lenses. :lovegrin:

read a couple of photography books...more or less you will know what you want.

myself...i tend to bring the panasonic lz8 out more during the weekends compare to my dslr which is like twelve times its value. Its a good model if all you will be using is Auto with some manual controls once a while.

$1300 is a lot of money which opens up option from the Pentax K-X to the Nikon D5000 kit. If someone else is paying for it, be sure to know what you are buying.

IMO, a prosumer compact can never replaced a SLR for the flexibility of interchanging lenses and the advantage of better image quality. Generally, those super/ultra zooms suffer quite a bit at the tele end in terms of the image quality.

The GF1 kit should retail for approx. $1.3k+ to $1.4k+.
