Hi everyone.

This is my first week of exploring lomography^^
I am still a newbie in terms of hands on with my new Holga and choosing different types of slides films. I went to a photoprinting shop, Triple D to help my friend to develop some rolls of films as well as to buy some new rolls of slides, and I never expect to have an unpleasant experience with them..

I was in a photo printing shop this evening, wanted to develope 3 rolls of films. I was served by a man wearing a pair of spec. who was in his 40s, I believed he is the shop owner and he is Mike. At first he was friendly when I asked him about the different kinds of end results for cross-processing. He was helpful at first and handed me a sample book which I can see many different results I can get by cross-processing with different types of slides films with a cost. I am new in taking photographs with slides films especially with my toy camera, Holga. So I was excited and may not realised that I had asked him question he had already explained briefly. He said something like,"I thought I had already explained?" Although he may said it in a nice tone with a smiling face but the way he put it I could feel that he was annoyed..Again before I make payment for a roll of slide, I asked him another question about the type of slides for a particular result I want to get. He replied the same thing again like,"I thought I already explained? You forgot again ah??" I told him shyly that I was tired and may not concentrate well. Then I asked him about the 35mm slides films, as I need to know it he carried any stocks, he replied:" So many times I had been explaining and telling you and how come you cannot remember again?" I apologised to him. Cos I really don't remember. And I don't know what was wrong with me that evening. I was very tired and unable to focus. After a long tiring day at work, I admit that I was very slow.. and difficult to concentrate and focus but he did not acknowledge my apology and he flipped through the sample book he showed me earlier and while doing that, he said,"I showed this to you before right?? You said you understand but you do not understand, already explained so many times to you right???......" and on and on he keep harping on this. I was very of taken aback..He did not said that in a angry manner but somehow or rather his tone has grown harshed..

I then asked him not to explain anymore, I told him in a calm manner that it's ok, I can always goggle to find out more about it. I left my 3 film rolls with him for development and scanning and paid for a a new roll of slide film and left the shop.. I pondered about the service I got from this shop owner and regretting for engaging his service. In 5 mins time, my friend called and asked me to collect back the film as she decided to develope on her own. Thinking to myself that it was a good opportunity to ask for the film back. I went back to the shop and asked the shop owner for my 3 film rolls back. During that time, there were a few customers in the shop. He looked up at me and yelled:"What is wrong with you????" I was very astonished! before I can speak, he continue to raise his voice and said,:"I had explained so many times to you and you can't even understand a simple thing, waste people
's time to explain and now you want back the films, what is your problem?" I felt that I can't tolerate anymore and I said:"Please mind your words I didn't try not to understand by purpose Just that I was really tired." But before I could finished, He yelled at me: "What do you mean mind my words?? simple explaination and you cannot even understand, what are you??" I replied,:"Your attitude really scares me and I do not want to go through your service." And he answered in a sarcastic tone:"You better check out your attitude!" Goodness sake.. I know I am slow and forgetful at that moment but that doesn't means I have to put up with his kind of words and tones... I was very upset and kept quiet. he slammed my film rolls on the countertops and shouted"GET LOST!" I grabbed my films and left his shop...

I was very upset and also disppointed. I have heard many good feedbacks about this photo printing shop from the forum, about how tiptop and great customer services they have...and because of this I went to visit Triple D shop.. but maybe I was just unfortunate...

Should I apologise to the shop owner for changing my mind by taking my films roll back? I wanted so much for him to develope it for me but I was really insulted by his words.... I mean as a customer service provider, he cannot expect every customer who walked into his shop to be perfectly 'trained' and meet his 'expectation'...I just asked same questions accidentally..and i wasn't meant it..I don't understand why he was so worked out and behave that way... I just feel that he definately went overboard..

May I know if Triple is the only the only shop in Singapore that do cross processing and scanning?

sorry for any grammer mistakes here...

You may also check out Fotohub or Ruby Photo. Not sure if Konota (Peninsula Plaza) does cross processing.

If you are really worn out and your memory bank is low, do not force yourself to take in extra datas which eventually you get yourself hanged.

Just leave the films to be processed and asked more info when collecting them. Or better still, ask any question here...ClubSnap is not here for nothing.

I do not understand the part...why your friend ask you to run an errand and then back up !? :dunno:

Since I was on my way to bugis, I thought I might as well stop by the shop and send it for processing. My friend wanted to develope there due to their good customer service, she wanted to try using her old scanner but she did not know that I make a trip to TripleD so she called me up. I thought since the films was just handed over to the fellow in the shop, I might as well collect it back. But he don't have to overreact... and simply because I look soft?? there were also other customers in the shop who witness such a hooligan behavior...

sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience at Triple D. been a customer of his for a few years, especially where xpro is concerned and i have never come across such behaviour from uncle mike.

you might have to swallow your pride and go back to him.

if my memory serves me correctly, konota, ruby and fotohub do NOT do xpro......

good luck

actually i feel that it is all a misunderstanding

and your friend should not have recalled the rolls of slides after you have already sent them in for processing

you did mention that this "mike" was friendly and helpful, something must have happened to turn a "friendly and helpful" guy into an angry man.
think about it

btw i am not a customer of Triple D, i do not know "mike" or Triple D
only posting my views based on what is written here

I've been a supporter of TripleD for very long and Mike's services have always been tiptop. He even taught me how to calibrate my monitor with his so that it comes out the way I want it, plus in the event I forgot to adjust properly on my computer, he allowed me to adjust it on his own before printing.

Not sure why you had such an argument, it is unfortunate, but the customer is not always right. Maybe he was having a bad day too.

other shops that do xpro are: Grace lab (Clementi Sunset Way), and Kim Tian (Hong Lim Complex). Fotohub dont do xpro the last time i checked. :)

bro, i fully agree with you. I had been going to uncle mike since i went back to film earlier this year. he has always been accommodating, patient and helpful. sometimes can even request for "express" processing and scanning if urgent. prices might be a little higher than Grace or some other shops but this is the price to pay for premium service.

I think TS has to understand that people are running a business and its mostly a one man show. if one customer was to take up too much time asking questions that can largely be found on the internet in various forums (CS, Lomotion etc), he wont have time to serve other clients. (And end up like the J316 saga).

Until I hear the view from mike, its only one sided and I dun think its fair to pass any judgment. :)

My advice to TS is that if you don't feel good going to Triple D, you can patronise any other minilabs. Chill since its the year end xmas season! Ho ho ho! :)

Perhaps he also had a bad day and your asking him to return the film was the last straw? You did mentioned he was friendly to begin with and even with repeating his answers to your questions, his tone is still quite reasonable?

It is true that customer is not always right. But losing patience and blasting out anger to anybody who walked into your shop is not a cool thing to do. You shouldn't have ask for the films roll back as that Mike could have raised a service chip. That's how I felt that could be the main reason he lose his cool which he was at fault too. You can try KT, I used to send all my b/w and slides films for them to process.
