Hi all I been taking group photos recently and realise the person at at the side is always not sharp, the face is blur. I wonder why is that so... I use f8 and focus at the centre, the centre is ok but the person at the side is blur
How is that so? Any remedies?

most lens are not sharp at the edge, if possible refrain from maxing out till the edge of your frame

else focus nearer the edge person and recompose back onto the center, should help shift the DOF abit more to cover the person on the edge

How "deep" is the formation of your group shot? If you could focus at the hyperfocal distance of your chosen aperture, you should be getting quite a sharp photo for the whole group.

And what format of camera are you using? FF? APS? 4/3?
An aperture of f/8 means a world of difference on each system in terms of DOF.

Camera shake could also be a reason for the unsharp sides, apart from a lens that has really bad sharpness falloffs.

First of all, are you properly aligned, centre of the group, perpendicular to the line they form? If that's not the issue, then I'd think nixontl may be right about it being an issue with lens quality at the edges.
Another possibility is field curvature of your lens (google if you don't know), or even a combination of issues. Photozone.de reports that the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 has some field curvature issues.

How about posting a example photo?
