Lens Hood - Original or 3rd Party ?

Hi all,

I've been calling alot of shops to check on the availability of original Canon ES-71-II Lens Hood but it seems like none of the shops has it. I was informed that they can order a 3rd party lens-hood for me and it may take 3-4 days. Also, it seems like 3rd party lenshood is almost 50% cheaper than the original.

I am not familiar with 3rd party lens hood so the question is, will there be any differences from the original (eg: quality, dimension, effects of pics, etc etc...) ??!!!

should be no problem, but do not expext at par quality

using one, quite tight but works for me.

Some after-market hoods do not have the black felt on the inner side that you can see on the genuine versions. However, that shouldn't affect picture at all and neither have I seen / experienced hoods where the dimensions differ from original.

IMO, if you feel you have a better 'feeling' of owning a original hood, just wait, or ask Canon if they have (Canon Keppel bay?)

If not, like all others have mentioned, 3rd party is doing its job fine.

Thanks all for your opinion. I didn't know that the 3rd party lens hood doesn't have the black-felt on the inner cover.

Maybe I should buy one just to try it....

3rd party works as well. As long it is well built with good finish. It does not affect your photos.

If your 3rd party hood is almost 50% cheaper than original, then obviously you are getting chopped.

Just go ebay and get a brand new one for less than $10 each with free shipping to your door step. Of cuz you wouldn't get the black felt lining for most 3rd party, but hey, it does wat it is suppose to do well and you save quite a bit of money along the way.
