K-x is here! A short review ... K-x vs K-7

Thanks fengwei! Actually I am in abit of a dilemma here. I am currently using the GF1. Quite happy with it except for its high ISO performance. I only came to know of the K-X last week but after seeing many sample pictures online and the pictures you posted on the comparison between the K7 and KX, I am sold! I really like the colour of the photos and its ISO performance. But I am abit hesitant because I do not want to carry a big DSLR around. I used to own a Nikon D80 but sold it off because I find it too heavy and bulky. I got the GF1 and in terms of size, it definitely fulfills what I want. I know the KX cannot compare with the GF1 in terms of size but I hope it will at least be smaller than the E450.

Here is the size comparison:

K-x: 123 x 92 x 68 mm
500D: 129 x 98 x 62 mm
E450: 130 x 91 x 53 mm

Hope you get the idea about how small Kx is. Kx is narrower but thicker, its grip feels the best. Of course this is a personal thing, better try it in store if you can. I think you should be able to try the camera at CP/OP/MS Color. Or just get a Km and see how you feel about it. Km and Kx are pretty much the same camera on the outside. But inside they are quite different.

GF1 is a good camera, I kinda like it too. But I think it's only small when you mount a pancake lens. GF1+20 is a great combo for general use though.

Kx is quite a bit thicker than the E450. But to be honest, I do feel the grip on E450 is too shallow to hold properly especially w/ a bigger lens mounted. The grip on K-x is much deeper :)

Hi my yellow-blue Kx arrived from Japan, so far so good, picture is ok. I have a question and feedback as Pentax is new to me and get a comfort level from you users.

Question: When tilt the camera up down left right, it is normal to have a moving block insides. Not that it is loose but a the feel and sound of a block moving. Normal?

Feedback on feel only.
================
OK, certainly looks toy cute with the non standard color. Those who want to break the color monotonous can get it. Unless you use a long lens, the camera won't look that obiang bec the body is small (more like bigger Canon S5 IS).

It sure has a loud shutter and pop up flash which surprised me.

If you cannot find Singapore for the time setup, don't use the scroll, use the left right button.

Indeed the demand for battery power in LV mode is very high, so alkaline is not suitable as it cannot utilize the battery efficiently.

Overall this tiny camera with bright color fits very well as candid dSLR where user won't feel the stern pressure from big black camera.

Congrats.

Please do post some pics of the camera.

If I am not mistaken, the "moving block" sound is the anti shake mechanism. It is also quite noticeable in the K10D, less so in the K-7.

congrats!

the moving block is nothing to be alarmed, it's the shake reduction mechanism.

Glad to hear that the moving block is normal. Thanks for the confirmation.

I will shoot the camera color and look in the outdoor sun tomorrow, they way you have better feel of the natural look.

Here is what it looks like. Indoor will be dull yellow.

My apology to TS, I inccidently post in the wrong thread. I just discovered there is another one on K-x without versus

bro spheredom, how did you buy from japan, and how much does it cost after shipping and conversion?

I bought it via Amazon.jp then shipped via Vpost Japan. The total cost will be the amazon.jp price (based on credit card conversation rate) + SIN GST and Vpost charge. Vpost charges + tax will be +-$123. OCBC card get $5 discount.

- No local warranty. FYI

BTW, Fengwei is planning a consolidated order in a separate thread. FYI

Wow! That looks great! Congrats! $125 for shipping and GST isn't too bad.

Let's see whoelse would have some other colored Kx here :D

Will test run this weekend. Hope to see more colors coming in from the MO. Flood the street with colorful dslr.:D

How about finding some people to do air spray paint job + lacquer on the focus ring and top and bottom only of the mounting ring. Then you will have the custom color lens too.

I have airbrush and all, but I don't think I'm that handy with it...
And dare not be responsible for your equipments.... :s

i have a question for k-x users... does it make a difference whether i use a fast 8GB card, or just a normal kingston class 4 8GB card? Would really appreciate feedback, cos won't want to spend extra on a fast card if the k-x doesn't support it..
