Hi guys,

as stated 500D or Sony A380?

Firstly, i have to say, i'm really totally new to DSLR ! I got no experience at all. never touch a DSLR before..

And for a newbie like me, A REAL NEWBIE, which is the best Camera for me to play with first? 500D or Sony A380? or maybe some cheaper camera like A230?

Like i said, I'm really very new to DSLR, was wondering, is it very hard to play with a DSLR? As in like all the camera's function?

Seriously, i need help from you guys..

Thanks =)

How do you intend to shoot? If you want to use your DSLR as a point and shoot camera then i recommend A380's smaller bro, the A330. Cheaper than A380, light weight, designed for liveview usage, built in guide, it's an excellent camera for those who don't wish to dig deep into photography. However if you think photography will grow on you, i'd suggest the newer A500. It's Sony counterpart to Canon 500D. It's slighly cheaper than the 500D and much more capable.

500D got video.....A500, dont think so...But specs-wise A500 seems more attractive.
I guess you really have to handle them decide.

500D is the best.
They have the best image on the base iso 100. Don't be surprise that it can beat others pro cam hands down based on iso 100.

Take it

Why do you want to get a DSLR? Itchy pocket? "Must also have" syndrom? Showing off with something big in hands? :bsmilie:
If you just want to continue snapping pictures here and there you are better off with any Point and Shoot cam or maybe prosumer (for the longer zoom). Don't waste time and money on DSLR if you are not willing to learn a lot about what happens when you take a picture and how to influence the result.
If you are interested in photography then DSLR will help you - but it cannot and will not replace your brain and it demands that you know or learn what you are doing. As a beginner, the difference of some ISO comparisons are not really relevant. Both cameras are great, both can take great pictures (technically, the artistic part is your job) - what makes the difference? The handling! Go to showrooms and shops, have a hands on session with each, see and feel the camera. Menus, weight, feeling .. all this will stay once you got the cam. Lenses and other equipment can be changed (later).

A500 has face detection, auto-HDR, fast autofocus in live view and a tilting LCD. A500 for the win!

Wah. You really need to learn more. At ISO 100, all entry-level cameras are basically identical.

And if you really think that a 500D can beat a 1dSMkIV, Nikon D3/D3s, Sony A850 and A900 at ISO 100/200, you really need to learn more about Canon's highlight clipping, handling of tonal range and dynamic range.

Please don't just anyhow post without actual knowledge, it misleads newbies and makes you look ill-informed.

Advise is neither.

Get either a330 ($800 comes with kit lens) or a500 ($1090 body, add $100 more for kit lens)

Both the above dslr are great for beginners. Besides having an easy to use beginner interface, they have image stabalizer build in, unlike Nikon and Canon dslr which don't hv image stabalizer thus u will need to pay a lot more when buying lens for stabalizer.

is the A500 really that good??? as compared to 500D??

can someone please provide a fair comment?

thanks

There is 1 thread in sony section showing the noise in various ISOs of A550, it was impressive. I assume A500 would have such prowess too.
Definitely more worth considering the A500 than A380 since the price doesnt differ that much.

Must be 500D or A380?

specific budget for the camera?

Well a500 has less pixel density than a550, so its noise control should theoretically be even better than a550. Of cos in real life application its probably so slight that it can't be noticeable.

Which one is better, you decide yourself.
