Any free Converter for AVCHD?

AVCHD is not a file format but rather a file system. what you need to do is use the software included or any avchd ready NLE like Pinnacle, FCP, Premiere CS4 and so on to convert to .MTS/M2TS files which can then be transcoded into other file formats.

the free converter always bring you a lot of trouble,
according to my own experience using MTS Converters, I am convinced that there is MTS sofware called Pavtube MTS Converter.

It runs very well on Mac computer.

I do not quite understand what you're talking.
Well, as i has been told, that avchd is a container that contains both the video and audio track. The video codec is h.264 and audio codec is AAC.
What do you mean when you say "file system"?

This one isn't free, but I've been looking for like forever to find a converter that can convert vids to a codec my mediacenter can read and that is simple in use and understands a lot of codecs. I really liked how Pavtube trial version provided full access to the functions of the software. It allowed me to test the conversion quality.
