this is the side plate and the sewing board of an antique singer sewing machine...
the brand is Singer...

it's not a common sight at homes nowadays...

Nice and powerful image to me ... brought back memories of childhood, use to step on the paddle and play with the metal wheels...

I have one at home, but lost the decorative thingy. In the old days it was common to give a sewing machine to a girl that's getting married so she can sew clothes for her hubby/kids.

My late mom used to sew my torn pants with one of those.... :(

I'm not yet married hor :nono:
It belongs to my parents......
Anyway I am currently thinking of buying an electric sewing machine.

It's cool to be able to make your own dresses.
Sadly, some girls don't even know how to fix a button. :)

i have 2 of those at home. first one was part of the dowry for my mom, other was when she bought it off a garang-guni man who was about to scrap it.

I think it cost a boom last time ... like buying a small car.

Yeap, I wanna (try to) make my own clothes, model in my own clothes and take photos of my self-made clothes with my dslr. Three-in-one. :bsmilie:

Nowadays, it is not like a 'requirement' for girls to sew or cook, unlike my mother's time. But I think it is good to know the basics. At least when the time comes for us to be mothers, we will not be so helpless and relying on foreign maids. ;p

lol...i like it when my pics stir up some forgotten memories :D

tat's what i hope my pics will do, stir up emotion...

my grandma still has 1, but i'm not sure if it's still workin as it has been kept for ages...
alas, i still remember the late nites she keep to make the clothes for us when i was a kid...abt 20yrs ago...

WOOT! WOOT!

I used to SIT on the paddle and rock like crazy!

Then kenar caught and PIAK PIAK PIAK!

Hmm ... for those with the old old decorative machines, can I photograph it on day? Would love to shoot it using B&W film!

Please PM me if you will allow me to soot your Singer.

Mine still works though it will sometime go crazy.
Used to have a lot of these old school equipment in my grandma's house: sewing machine, coal-powered iron (to iron clothes), old Shanghai-style tin cans etc but now mostly thrown away.

Nostalgic!
Reminiscent of those days when my late-Grandmother used to be 'tak-tak-tak'-ing at her Singer, while I sit watching black and white cartoon on the boxy Sierra TV set.
Hmmm. I must be getting younger...

the sewing machine can be turned upside down for storage right? it's a desk for my fan now. hmm.
